FS7: Slog2 exposure question

I know this has been covered before but i can't find it now and may need it for a shoot tomorrow.
When using Slog2 with the FS7, what do you guys suggest for proper EI exposure levels so that its not noisy.
I know with Slog3 its usually preferred about a stop or more over .
When I used the A7Sii it the general suggestion was to overexpose 2stops.

However I seem remember reading that on the FS7 it was OK to use SLOG2 right up at 2000 EI

Is 2000 the Sony "default" as it is for Slog3?

yes I've read this many times and I usually do this for SLOG3 . However Alistair doesn't posit any difference between Slog 2 & Slog3 and I seem to recall that some people do - (was that Doug? ) . So that's what I'm wondering about.
I have a shoot tomorrow with a very hot window behind a talking head and they don't want too much light on the subject because it gets blinding and he's the CEO. No blacks at all in the shot. If I go down in EI too much I lose some of the highlights which is why I want Slog2 to begin with. In Slog 3 I would probably shoot it at 1250 .

very hot window behind .. not too much light on the subject ..for a talking head.. unless its silhouette.. sort of riding for a fall.. Ive had this "request".. many times ... usually because its "such a great view ".. !!.. change the location if i were you.. dont think Log will save that.. ?

I'm a big boy Donny and know exactly what i'm getting into and have shot it before burning in Slog3 and HG7. No silhouette. We still have lots of light, just stop less than I would prefer. It looks fine and already passed clients review. Just trying to edge out a touch more in the highlights so it passes my own standards :).

Actually now I think I recall that what I read may have been that you don't need to worry about the noise at 2000 EI if you are burning in the LUT which is the clients preference. Does that make sense?

An alt choice may be to try Slog 2 in custom and try to add the sat to get it close to take home. Saw some nice examples of the here recently. I'll have a few minutes to experiment before the subject talks in.

Basically your not shooting cine EI /Slog anything ..if your baking in a LUT.. you can change ISO etc.. only the WB stays preset only.. your gamma is the LUT,s curve.. not Slog.. but with that DR maybe you would be better shooting EI Slog.. then grade after.. still doesnt found like a good set up for a talking head if you dont mind me saying.. even less so in no Log mode..

Since you want to be over rather than under with S log, can't you use the waveform to push the highlights as far as you're willing to push them, then check where your subject is sitting in that waveform? If he's still under then you might have to lose some of the background or throw more light on your subject. exposing using the waveform means you don't have to worry what EI the camera is set to. That's all without burning in a LUT though, which I wouldn't be doing in that situation.

Thanks Patfilms , however I know how to expose and would not burn in a LUT if I didn't have to for this client. As much as I love this forum and appreciate the desire to help, I'm not looking for general advice - just wondering about SLOg2 and noise, particlarely as relates to burning in the LUT.

Its a preference thing. Im ok with noise in EI2000 most of the time. Depends on what LUT you use/burn in also. If you burn in LUTs I would not change EI (in camera) since that is messing with the curve and where it clips. Better to create a custom LUT with LUTcalc that is EI1600 for example (if that is where your preference lies).

ND.6 or ND.9 the window.
If that's not an option, set up a large double net 6' behind the subject that covers the background.

But isnt that the point.. that you are not shooting log of any type.. once you burn in a LUT.. so thats all out the window.. you are shooting the gamma of the LUT you burn in.. burn in HG7.. thats the what you get.. its not Log anymore.. ??
