ISO is not fixed like on real film ISO. Depending on the gamma curve you get different actual ISO readings. Slog at 0db is equivalent to 1,600 ISO when you adjust for the gamma curve.
Ok, so in my camera it says ISO800 and if i set a greychart at 36IRE it absolutely matches the readings on my lightmeter. So... show me where do people get ISO1600 equivalent with the SLog at 24p (50-60i is different and doubles exposure leaving it at 1600).
It all depends on how you use your meter. ISO are measure different according to your media.
For example in the old days of photography you would do you reading for negative film on the darkest area where you wanted details. For transparencies or positive you take the reading on the highlight.
How do you measure with your meter? Highlights, Shadow or midway?
Mac sets his middle grey @ 35IRE(the way you use LOG md grey is 35). You meter a grey card @ ISO1600, and see what Tstop it meters, then adjust the Aperture. If it meters at let's say T5.6, and at that Stop on cmaera, the middle grey is 35, the camera is ISO1600, if middle grey is at 29IRE, any you have to open up to a T4, the camera is ISO800.
That said mac, I belive the F3 seems to place mid grey @ 40 if you look at a step chart. Its not as aggresive and ARRI C-Log. So its technically "ISO 1600", but I like to expose even lower @ 35 like you, splitting the dynamic range to 7 on top, and 6.5 on the bottom. I prefer the highlight retention.
