FS7: SLOG 3 test with various Sony Luts

This clip was shot in SLOG 3 and monitored with the Rec 709 lut. I dropped the various Sony Luts I downloaded from Alister Chapman's site onto the clip and labeled them, might be useful to someone, especially since this clip represents a near worst case scenario from a noise perspective, with it's bright lights and dark sky.

Zero is supposedly same exposure as out of the camera. The rest appear to be exposure corrections. Not sure exactly why they are provided, or what the difference between Film 1 and Film 2 is.

They are provided because a lot of us rate the camera at a less sensitive ISO, sometimes one or two stops. This results in the whole image being brighter, but using a "1over" or "2over" LUT will darken the image by one or two stops, respectively. This cleans up a lot of noise but you lose a bit of head room in the highlights.

You've done this test wrong so it's pretty meaningless. And I agree with Cuevo, that's bad manners not to credit the person who's LUTs you are using for free.

Sorry about the oversight, credit given. Certainly didn't mean to misinform- only wanted to see the results of the individual LUTS when dropped on the same clip and post the results.

Yes the LUTs are not meant to work that way ie. on top of same clip with same exposure. Each gain EI LUT is meant to go with the corresponding EI used when recording in order to "restore" the exposure.

If anyone is seriously considering using these for post in combination with CineEI mode I would do some tests with a step chart to see what is happening at both ends of the waveform monitor. Depending how these were made, it's very possible to end up clip one end of the waveform.

I guess it's kind of a given what each will do... the "over" ones will darken the image by the number of stops indicated (i.e. 1over, 2over, 3over) and the opposite for the "under" LUTs.

Dropping them onto the same clip is not how they are meant to be used, which is why you're being told that this test was a bit meaningless.
