Slo-mo not working? I guess cmd+J won't do it for me?

Hopefully this is a dumb question that gets resolved by the first person who reads it.... but.... changing speed isn't working for me.

I click on a video clip.

cmd+J to bring up the change speeds box.

Trying to make it slower, I'll type in 80 or 70 or 60 percent. Nothing happens. Also, the duration box is grayed out. I can't changed the duration (say make a clip from 5 to 6 seconds).

I have only frame blending turned on. Basically, it appears I'm handcuffed from some reason.

Same thing happens when I try to speed it up to 110 or 120. I type it in, press enter, and nothing happens.

Hate to say this... but I actually miss ctrl+dragging on Sony Vegas Pro. GASP.

Without any details of your hardware or workflow, it is impossible to assist.

Which computer, OS, FCP version number, sequence settings, codec, scratch disc?

As has been stated, we can't see your set up from here, and without that information, how can we know what questions to ask or information to give?

Details are what provides the basis for a response. All we know now is that you used Vegas, and you have a problem in some FCP timeline.

For example, if you are transcoding from a non editing codec, make certain you convert with Log and Transfer in FCP.

For footage that originates from DSLRs, like the Canon 7D, use the Canon EOS plug in and convert to a 422 codec like Pro Res 422.

AVCHD footage work with same way with L/T.

I just dozens of speed changes in some sports footage I recently edited without issue, so something is wonky in your workflow.

Is there room in the timeline after the selected clip for it to grow? If not, it has no place to go.

Here's my workflow:

I'm shooting 720p/60 fps with a Canon 7D

Using MPEG streamclip to transcode files into "Apple XDCAM EX 720p60 (35 MB/s VBR)" format. I turn the quality all the way up to 100% un-check Interlaced Scaling.

Using Final Cut Pro 7 on an iMac intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz machine with 4GB ram.

Exporting to Quicktime in Final Cut as "XDcam EX 720p 60 VBR)

I've tried in the beginning, middle and end. Moved clips around so there is plenty of time before and after to accommodate a potential change in duration.

The thing that throws me is the duration box is grayed out... meaning... it looks like it's not going to move regardless....

XDCAM is long GOP.

That might be creating an issue.

Try a pro res clip

I don't think that's the issue. I edited XDCam footage all the time when I was shooting on an EX1 and never had issues with changing the speed/duration of a clip.

I'd try trashing your preferences, then restarting Final Cut.
