Hi everyone,

So i just hooked up my hvx200 into my new avid system via usb. I tried both the 2.0 and 3.0 ports. It crawled at 20mb/s. I got 20mb/s on my junky old laptop i edited on and that didn't have a raid. My new editing system has a 6 disk raid and was able to copy the files from one location to another at 315mb/s. so why is it taking so long to get it off the P2? I have tried both E and R series p2. Does the camera's card reader suck that much? Am I gonna have to break down and by a p2 reader or get a pcima adapter for my desktop like i was thinking? The e series should be able to transfer at 150 mb/sec right? I'm using a usb cord from my digital camera...does the cord make a huge difference?

Basically I'm wondering is 20mb/s normal for using the cam as a card reader or should i expect better.

I think its the USB port, they just aren't fast enough for HD video transfer. I'd recommend using the Firewire port to transfer files to your computer, it will definitely be much faster.

ive found the opposite to be true

Really?? Then perhaps I should reconsider the way I've been doing my transfers, I was always under the impression that USB was far slower then Firewire....

Thanks for the info guys,

i can't get the fire wire to connect on my windows machine. from what i have heard, the fire wire option is mainly for mac or live capture with pc or mac.

You should be getting transfer times between 1gb to 2gb per minute through USB.

1gb/min is 1024mb/min or 17mb/s which is just under what i am getting. So I guess my offload speeds are on the low end of normal. I'll probably buy a built in reader soon enough, but it sucks the cam is such a bad usb P2 card reader. I though my new editor would be able to offload at around 60mb/sec since that's the max of usb 2.0. (why no 3.0 cams)
