Slightly Odd Music Video - £0 Budget

Good day to you all, you wonderful, lovely, delightful (and in some cases, somewhat deranged) people.

There - are you considerably buttered up?

Good.

I've just put my first HVX shot music video up online here...

http://www.vimeo.com/794351

I'd appreciate any input you'd like to give - and you can be tough - I can take it.
I realise it's not the most perfectly shot piece. Some of you may remember from when I put the still up a while ago, I had to shoot the main interior stuff in about half an hour, and the dolly I'd been promised didn't turn up, PLUS, the stage was high and I had no elevation... yadda yadda - excuses aside, it wasn't the most ideal shoot. (lots of fun, lovely people - just technically not ideal)

We pulled it back somewhat with another pretty quick outdoor shoot.

My list of things to do next time includes... Insist on time to properly light and run cam tests & set up. Use my lovely new tripod more (which I bought since), try and use an actual lighting design.

But go ahead, shoot from the hip, whaddya like, whaddya hate?

cheers

(why do my tests always look better that stuff I actually go out to film??? :furious3:  )

Moog,

I'd say that the disclaimers aren't necessary on this. I LOVED IT. Actually a song with some originality and flare. Not sure if it's because I'm a limey too, but it was spot on. Really enjoyed this piece and your disclaimers and justifications, albeit necessary maybe to you on an artistic sense, aren't necessary. The rap is just really well done and I love the visuals. You did a FAB job and for whatever thigns that aren't perfect, they just add to the overall flavor of the spot.

Would love to see more and what's the deal with the artist? Got an album out or such?

Keep it up and take the energy into the next one but keep it just as light and funny and you'll get the same feedback from me. The only one thing I noticed was some harsh shadows on one of the scenes but since I already dug the music then it's all good. And THANK GOD.. it's not some half rate gruel/yelling music video with sub-par lyrics which you can't understand and way over the top distortion and grime.

Cheers and yes I'll take a CUP. CHEERS ON A GOOD ONE!

Ha - ha!

Well, thanks Justyn. I can honestly say I wasn't expecting that kind of feed back, but I thank you quite sincerely from my nervous stomach.

You had fun watching my vid... then that's pretty much job done for me :)

The artist is a wonderful fellow named Elemental. Theres not much around in the world of his work yet, but if you surf over to my youtube channel (iammoog) in my favorites is another track he worked on that is also great (by the Monkey Sons).

He's got about two albums worth of stuff which is being finished off at the moment, so we should see something soon. I'm as excited as you are!!
He has a website www.elementalmc.co.uk or www.mcelemental.co.uk try playing around with those, or drop him a comment on the video on you tube or vimeo, he'll be checking those out.

Thanks again for taking a look :)

cheers old bean

Not much to pick at. As you've mentioned, no, it's not a shimmering example of technical perfection, but it was damn fun, original and entertaining, and I can't imagine it being shot much better working with no $ and no time.

Really liked it.

Cheers

(is beer allowed or just tea?)

Moog... as you can tell, it's a consenus so far. Where's your youtube? Also, that's a sweet site... with some great music. I LIKE IT. I'd want a copy for sure. Kind of a tribe called Quest old school flavor with a British Twang. Wonderful STUFF.

send me a copy later....

Hey Justyn, my you tube channel is listed under 'iammoog' - wither that or you should be able to find it by searching for 'peculiana'

I'll pass on your enthusiasm the Professor Elemental - He'll be chuffed to bits I'm sure.

I'll ask if he has a mailing list or something :)

Moog, if it's good then I'm all about supporting it and it IS. I watched the Tea video 3 times and makes me laugh each time. I love the part about OOO LONG.. and put a bit of milk in it. You got something there and I wish you guys the best. I'll be popping over to the UK this summer with my HVX so if you got another Elemental shoot then maybe I'll pop over for a bit of shooting, a cup of tea, or a pint of Guiness either way..

Simply good stuff so I'd say to PUSH it... When ya get a disk, hit me up!

I dig - love the approach to the song from a style point of view, I think this is the most important factor in the video working. Quirky, quick and funny. You've chosen to portray the character in just the right way for us to engage with the tone of the music even more - nice settings and lots of good, simple set ups have guaranteed we don't lose the foucs of the piece and are always engaged with the professor.

The edit is tight and I think this is where you've pushed the envelope the furthest, (in all the right ways!). The old, scratchy vintage effect that is used in a handful of shots works nicely, and if anything I wanted to see more of this.

I think the locked off, exterior footage is by far the best to look at, the dutched angles and combination of foreground/background action is great. Maybe some of handheld interiors feel a little rushed (as you mention above) but I really, really don’t think this is a problem as the song is so frantic, a bit of this reflected in the camera work actually works well!

To sum up, excellent work, fantastic style, approach and delivery.

Now then I'm feeling oddly thirtsy all of a sudden....must be time for some tea, oh yes I'd love a cup....:happy::happy::happy:

An absolute delight

An absolute delight

Hi Moog,

What can I say, I loved it. It;s so refreshing to see something original, made even more so by the fact it was done on a budget.

Let this be a lesson to us all, content and originality will always trump lots of kit, money etc.

Let's see more of this, Luvvery Jubbly

i peed a little!
you owe me a chair!
I wasn't drinking so you don't owe me a monitor or keyboard.

hee hee = sorry Arson, I'll get that chair in the mail. I'll make it a wipe clean surface one.

Thanks to everyone for your hugely encouraging comments. I wasn't sure how the forum was going to take it to be quite honest.

If all goes well, I'm gonna try and get that chap for my time fest entry (if I can get it going) - so keep em peeled for that!!

We are still open for buisness on critique if anyone fancies it.

cheers

Moog :)
