Slider

I'm in the market for a slider, but I'm not really sure where to go for one. I know indiSYSTEM has one, but I'm not really sure how nice it is.

I'd like a 48" (4 foot) slider with supports (or the ability to attach to c-stands). I'd like to not have to pay more than 700 for the slider itself (not including the supports).

Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I was looking over the website (I assume that you're affiliated with them). Is it possible to attach more than one support system to it (aka a support at either end of the slider system)?

if you'd like to spend less than 700, have a look at efilmgear.com. I bought a dual dolly (8 wheels) with 4 feet tracks from them. Price was 175$ but I asked them to add a central plate and feet on both sides so at the end I paid 245. I got it two days ago, tried it out and today I'll do my first shooting with it.
As long as you don't leave your camera unattended on rails it works really good.
I bought this system instead of a slider because you can use the dual dolly on any flat surface so you gain much more flexibility and you're not limited by the length of your rails.

I'm looking for something that would be able to handle a 15 lbs payload no problem. The one at efilmgear looks nice (all black, very sleek) however I fear that it would collapse.

I agree with you on the limitations of the slider's movement, but I use a SteadiCam for my bigger "movement" shots. The slider I'm mostly wanting for slow pushes in (something that's difficult with the SteadiCam).

Nice find, it seems that the prices have gone up since you bought yours.

no they didn't.
Initially I found the bundle on ebay for 175 "buy now" but I waited too long and the item got sold. Then I emailed efilmgear and Eric (he's a very nice guy) offered me the same price as ebay. It was so cheap that I asked him to customize the rails.
Just mind that if you are considering to use a 4 feet track with a central plate on a single tripod, you will be able to slide for 30cm on each side before it bends. Best if you can use two tripods

Can someone give me the correct links to the two products needed for the igus slider as I think I might have wrong ones and don't want to order the wrong things. Thanks help is much appreciated.

If you took the idea below with the brooms, but used a small platform riding on skateboard bearings, you would have a much smoother movement than ANYTHING on the market. I just built one using stainless steel towel bars on skate bearings. You want to talk about smooth? You can simply tilt it slightly and it moves by gravity alone. I am going to motorize it next - all for well under $100 - under $50 without the motor setup. Linear bearings are nice because they are quiet, but are not always smooth and easy to move by hand. Certainly not worth 3-10x the price.

This is a great DIY if you want the unsteady hand movement slider. I bet with some practice this is as good as Igus and Zaza. Now make a small platform and use skateboard bearing to ride either side of that broom and your GOLDEN.
