Sleepless Nights - an F35 adventure in Ikea

As some of you may know, I recently directed a 30 minute short at Ikea, titled Sleepless Nights. This past week I've been trying to just relax, as I've been under quite unhealthy stress and have been hallucinating a bit since the production, but I'll be ready to post some footage soon.

It was a tough production, but we survived and we've got some really interesting stuff in the bag. Although Ikea looks like a giant soundstage, it's actually a quite horrible place for film production. Once you have it lit and prepped though, it becomes magical.

Here are a couple of behind the scenes stills. The first pic shows how I had my F35 configured for this shoot, with a Hyperdeck on top. And yes, that's me with the red bull.

awsome pics!!! redbull is LEGAL crack!!! that why is sells and makes maddddd money. my buddy had to stop drinking monsters. he was drinking 2 a day faithfully until the doc said , u gotta big lump growing around ur scrotum. He stopped cold turkey ever since. The growth is starting to slowly die.
 
Also, here's how small the F35 world is. A friend of mine in Denmark posted a picture of himself on an F35 shoot. I guessed from that who the DP was!
 
It's indeed a receiver for wireless followfocus. Can't remember the brand of the batteries. Rented. V-locks.
 
Thanks. Your rig look very compact look great. You use your sony PL? Is it normal they are hard to fit in F35? Tried it in rental house and was tricky to fit so rented standard zeiss.
 
Yeah, I liked the idea of having the recorder on top, and using the L-handle instead of the usual handle. Makes the whole thing more compact. But I know the CA longed for the proper handle, though.

Sony PLs should fit perfectly. Mine do, at least..
 
Hm, not in my experience. Maybe your mount is a little bit tighter than mine, or perhaps the lenses were from a different production batch.
 
For me was difficult. Looked like lens had to sit perfectly to lock. Like tolerance is too tight. Zeiss fit esier maybe because older.

Is that rig using them? Look like smaller lens.
 
We used the sonys quite a lot, but in those pics the camera is set up with Ultraprimes. Ultraprimes and Sony PLs cut amazingly well together. Similiar sharpness and tone.

You may be right that they have to sit quite perfectly to lock. Never thought of that as a flaw before, though.
 
Don't mean flaw. Just noticed how much more tight than zeiss standards and wonder if normal. Zeiss much easier to put on.

But Im curious. If you have set of ultra primes why also use sony PL in this shot?
 
We rented the Ultraprimes. Basically it was a budgetminded decision. We only rented focal lengths that weren't part of my sony kit. In other words: wide angles
 
I have used many lenses that seem to take a little bit of effort to get them to sit properly - but in all cases when they do the PL mount should turn easily.

That's the same on ARRIFLEX, Sony, RED, etc...

Maybe this is it but the PL didn't turn that easy. Maybe I tried turn before lens was sit properly because it was difficult to make it sit. Don't know.
 
Yeah a PL lens mount should always turn easily if the lens is sitting right - it can take a while to get used to your particular camera/lens combo
