Just rapped up shooting a few days ago. Thought I would post these screens as my 1st post. Great community site you got here Jarred. Glad to finally be apart of it.

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

(They're all cool ;D) But I REALLY like the second, great angle, very nice shot imo. Keep us posted on the final!

Are any of these color corrected?

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

The color cast is a little too intense for my taste. The aspect looks a little off, like it's stretched left and right....is that the case?

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

Looks vertically 'squished' to me, too, but I kinda like the warm color cast.

Seems to me that the first and third shots are dominated too strongly by the dark areas, though ... but maybe it doesn't look as harsh when in motion. The shadows just don't have enough detail, and kinda throw off the balance of your compositions, IMHO.

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

Stretch fixed.
The contrast ratio is meant to be high. Most shadows in the video are completely black or have little fill.

Nothing has been colour corrected yet. We had on a Black Promist and a Yellowish filter to make the cyan sky and warm skin tone. It also gave us a california type feel to the video.

Sorry you don't like it disjecta. I'm a big fan of your work, I have all your  films on my CPU. They has inspired me to do a nature documentary this fall here in BC.

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

You know, it's really not that bad, and it's always hard to judge from screen shots.

I'll look forward to seeing some actual footage. I certainly didn't mean to imply I didn't like the whole thing.

Anyway, that's great to hear about the documentary. Do you have something specific in mind?

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

I agree with that disjecta.

I kind of like these; has a Training Day kind of feel. Maybe a little bounce on the stair shot would help a little but overall it looks gritty and not all GLOSSY and I like that.

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

I want to showcase the small islands off of Vancouver Island for the documentary because there are some abandoned native reserve buildings and lush and exotic forests on those Islands. I'm thinking of investing in a cobra crane like the one you used in the Waters Edge film. Are you pleased with it?

The Bottom and top shots are on dollies and look great in motion.

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

lookin good. when can we expect the video?

i'd like to see what close ups look like with this lighting.

peace

Re: Skriptik Soul Music Video screen Grabs

Cranes in general are a pain in the ass to set up, particularly if you are working solo, which I am exclusively. When you have a team obviously it's a lot easier.

Regardless, the shots are always pleasing so it's worth it in the end. I suppose the Cobra is pretty good, a little cumbersome but fairly light.

The trick with using a crane is that you always have to move it more slowly than you think you should, that's what gives it a much more cinematic sense. In fact, you should follow this rule for all camera movement. It makes the viewer believe you have a huge camera instead of a handheld video camera :D

There is a bounce on the stair shot if you can see it. There is a upwards light on the left side of his face that is casting a shadow underneath is left eye. Thats the bounce. But one of the key parts to the concept of the video was to keep his eyes kind of hidden threw out the film. You will find out why when the video comes out. Thanks for your comment on Training day, Mauro Fiore is one of my favorite cinematographers.
