Sking tone detail funtion is noticeable?

I have done close up shots of several people while turning the skin tone detail on and off and nobody I show it to can tell the difference.

Do other settings need to be "just right" for skin tone detail to actually be noticeable?

It's been "off" the entire time I've had the camera. It very well could be a bad thing, but its the truth. I've had some great quality close-ups anyways.

If it's doing anything, the effect is very subtle. At least, I've never noticed it doing much.

Try it on an extreme example, like an octogenarian...

lol.. barry forgive my ignorance, but what on earth is a "octogenarian" i read that and was left sitting here blowing spit bubbles from drool trying to comprehend what it was. :)

..wait let me guess first though. its an 8 sided color thing with different colors on it to test out skin tones in lighting situations.? or an octopus with a degree..
