Sketch Comedy

Hey I did some sketch comedy videos and I have site up. I know the directing, editing, and what not needs work. Didn't have too much time to story board it, most the effort went into writing.
Most of the problem came from not having a second camera man so we had to keep cutting and doing the lines separate. THat's the first time I had to do that so my angles were too wide.
I'm actually currently looking for a second camera man, so the acting can be fluid.

anyways here it is:

fore warned: it's pretty crass and low brow so if you're not into that avoid.

on the first one- establish the background sound at the introduction level, then ramp it down slowly as you enter the dialog segment between the characters.
you don't want it getting in the way of the main dialog.

could be cut tighter overall.

not particularly my cup of tea but i still can comment on an unbiased basis. i agree with the above statement....the cuts were distracting throughout...kinda taking me out of it. U dont need 2 cameras...it just like if ur filming a movie in my opinion. Just need better directing and editing as u have already said. The short hair actor is stronger in IMO...i know the other one seems to be the "dont care layed back one" but i dont think he acts it so well.

Overall tighting all round could make it much better and smart cuts with close ups with the delivery of some of those lines could make the comedy pop more.

thanks guys. yea I agree with what you guys are saying except for two camera angle thing. The actors sometimes improv the lines and the physical movements. and it would seem more authentic if i can capture that and allow them to run with it without restrictions from both perspectives. yea I could also plan it out and keep it dry and to what's on the script. Although the fore coming ones will have comedic actors in there, who will probably work better if they are working off each other's momentum.

Believe it or not that's how he is naturally. He is a friend who wants to act, but doesn't have much experience. I'm going to train him, and replace him in the meantime. I thought the skits could be stronger if the lines were delivered correctly on his part. It seemed to be very one sided to me. I will definitely have better editing on the oncoming skits. these two were tests to see if I could deliver funny material on camera. Other than the technical aspects, funny? do more?

ok..i get u on the 2 camera's now. yeh i wud tend to agree..i cant really answer on the funniness of it though cuz as i said its not really my thing. there are funny moments and i can see it being funny to some1 who likes that kind of thing. hey u can watch "infamous" on youtube (even though i suspect u have watched it based on a phrase that was used. if u havent though..it can give u some ideas on how to punch home that comedy. http://www.youtube.com/user/Infamoustheseries yeh its not the same and its more scrpited than what ur doing maybe but u can get some ideas or "Curb Your Enthusiam" is more allong ur lines.

I can see ur thing taking flight though

i think its pretty funny writing, but just needs some more work... if continuing to use 1 camera, maybe just run all the way through it a few more times before filming and then write in the parts you improved that worked. film a few more closeups and that will help with bad transitions from different camera angles. good reaction shots can make parts funnier so try some of those and just edit them out if they dont work. it looks like your goin for the always sunny in philadelphia humor, but its a little drawn out and slow. talk quicker and almost cut each other off more to keep it more interesting and funny, and shorten them both. the 2nd one could use a better ending, but some good dialogue overall. id say watch some barats and bereta too see how quick they are with their dialogue

i had actually never seen it. It's along those lines, and I do enjoy "curb your enthusiasm". Although my style is more influenced by "it's always sunny in philadelphia". The problem with infamous and curb your enthusiasm is that they ride along the lines of having a conscience and the standardized emotions guys are suppose to have. I'm pushing more for shameless pursuit of sex and constant scheming. I haven't really showed it yet, but it'll be presented in the next skit which I based off "pusuit of happyness".

thanks for the nice comment

exactly adam, that's the fault of my friend, he needs more training so i'm replacing him for now. thanks for the comment. and yes barats and bereta is good stuff.

thanks for the support guys. I'll have the next one up on the site in about 2 weeks. Right now I'm redesigning the site and having everything set up. It's going to be more than just humorous party videos the site will also include observational humor on today's society from the perspective of a guiltless guy. the next video will be a comedic take on "pursuit of happyness". and yes we have no shame.
