Skateboarding with a DVX

Looks good. Yeah, I can see that high shutter speed kickin'. Is there an adapter onboard? The clouds look amazing. What app do you edit with? Might be nice to add some VO or location audio, or change up the song during the cut. Lots of great editing, cuts, why not make the audio equally interesting?

no, ive never tried an adapter, although id love to. just not enough money for one.
i edit everything with final cut pro.
i havent really experimented too much with audio layers, but thank you for the suggestion!

That turned out amazing....The colors especially....I've seen my share of skate videos and what I like about yours is that it gives you a feel of grunge skate but it looks very professionally done....Definitely a great yet different looking skate video and that's what the industry needs...

That was absolutely awesome dude
I agree that the fisheye looked a little out of place - if you perhaps ran the fisheye footage through Magic Bullet, I reckon that it'd probably have blended in a little better :)

Loved how you did the DOF stuff without an adapter too - composition was slick and the soundtrack totally made it.

Seriously, I can't believe that you've been copping flak about it being "boring"
Tell them to watch some trailers from any Transworld vid before giving you grief.
Keep doing it your way :)

After looking a bit closer, I think that MasterP has hit the mark. It's not the distortion from the fisheye that's jarring, it's the transition from such beautiful colors and lighting to a stark mid-day shot that isn't color matched to the previous footage. Some of the other fisheye shots match much better, so it seems like a relatively easy fix.

How are you going to be distributing the finished vid?

yeah, i agree about the fisheye.
ive tried to color correct some of it, but the results are never as id like them. also, since im relavtivley new to the dvx, when i first got it, i shot most of the skating 30i i believe; or whatever the default setting is. im sure this is another reason the footage appears so "jarring."
ive tried to download magic bullet a number of times, and after an apparently succesful install, it wouldnt work in final cut. i couldnt figure it out and just gave up. perhaps ill give it another go.

Re: the music ( and rcbrown 23 is still waiting to know what it is), I really liked the juxtaposition of the "grunge skateboard aesthetic" and the classical tone of the music. It's always nice to lend some gravitas to a subject that people tend to dismiss as frivolous (read: youthful) and make them see it in a new light, and recognize the beauty and the artistry that they might not have taken the time to acknowledge (even at the risk of boring your own subjects).

i agree. while skateboarding at times is grungy and dirty i do believe it to be a graceful sport.

sorry for not replying about the song. it's "Inexorable" by David Byrne of the Talking Heads from his 2003 album; "Lead Us Not Into Temptation"

Wow!
I had to watch it twice. It looked very clean and the colours were beautiful.
I really liked your locations, and your subjects have charisma. It makes me want to shoot some skateboarding. Nice job!

what settings did you export that with in final cut?
it was a quick download with awesome quality...
please let me in on that... a screen shot of the window would be ideal...

wow great stuff. Were they skating with a tornado forming in the back about halfway through?! Also maybe 20 seconds before that, was the guy holding a light meter? Before he punched the air

beautiful

beautiful

This video is absolutely stunning. I loved every second of it. The music is so perfect for this.
Its so nice to see a video like this after watching all the PUNK ROCK RAH RAH skate videos that are out there.

What was the name of the song used?

no tornado, just horrible weather. tornado would have been nice though.
yes, he was holding a light meter.
the name of the song was Inexorable by David Byrne of the talking heads.
thanks!

Well done!
It's a feeling that comes with your film, and it's very nice.
If you would have someone been beaten up or crying, it would be fantastic.
In terms that this is one of your first shots, with the dvx it's a goodie!

Al in al I like the sensitivity, and colors.
hope you continue!

Incredibly well done. CC looked great and the dynamic of shots was boss!!! Thanks for sharing.

Good variation, good color, nice compositions.

-- side note -- something about characters smoking just captures my attention. It's like a mini side story.

Keep it up. Looks great.

p.s. Post a clip of an imp.a.h.ssible if you have one. That trick bl*ws my mind.

adoyle -- Thanks for the link. What will those crazy kids cook up next?

kynantait -- Again, love the style. I'm just learning the camera/FCP and aspire to match the richness and flow.

Peace
