Skateboarding clip

first off, de-interlace it

your fisheye vignette is crooked, and i hate vig in the first place, a wide fisheye shot without black corners looks so much more professional.

the first shot was poorly composed. it was like mid level height and really far from the skater, get low and close, use the fisheye for what its worth.

as for the color, the first shot was nice, nothing amazing but very sharp and crisp colors, i like

second shot was pretty dull, but better composed. but still not

USE THE RULE OF THIRDS!!!

What setup are you using? vx1000 mk1? or DVX100?

Try to get closer when filming, the fisheye is great for making small things look huge. I like to get close to whatever the thing is (whether it be a rail, stairs, ledge, etc) and i try to fill the whole frame up with that object, it will look huge compared to your tiny skater in the background rolling up. Keep your eye on him, and as he gets closer, point the camera up more so that his head is always right below the top of the frame. When he pops, thats when you have to point up quickly, being careful not to cut him off. Then follow his head back down as he lands and if you can, end your shot with the object full frame again, with him (tiny) rolling away in the background.

Like in your second shot you could have filled up the entire frame with that block while you see him rolling up to it. Point it up when he does the manual to get him completely in frame still, then end back on the full frame block with him skating away. Believe me, if you shoot it like that, that waist high block would appear to be head high. And nobody would know unless they've personally been to that spot.

Watch a lot of skate videos and try to copy the filming techniques the pros use. Practice it and your footage will start looking more and more professional. The trick to skateboard videography is making even the simplest tricks look crazy.

Here is some of the footage i've filmed from 2004 to present (you can see how its gotten cleaner through time). I apologize for the shitty youtube compression..

You may think composition and framing isn't really necessary when filming skating but it is. It makes your shots much better. It's not over kill.
