Hey there I have been coming here for a while and wanted to share this Skate Video a friend is working on. It was not made with a DVX but I wanted to show some of his work he has done. He is a great skater and is in the prosess of making an hour plus amature video of himself and his skate crew. I made a homemade stedicam and he put it to good use for a lot of shots and he did make a handheld for the cam also which work well. He edits well for learning on the fly so I want to pass along some opinions from those here. Thanks

Steve

Good skating. The editing was good...but it could of been more dynamic...maybe apply like a few odd looking CC in some of the clips before a trick or suttin..then a flash to a trick.

but was the steadicam really needed? u could get those same shots by holding the camrea by its handle and crouching on a skateboard and following the person doing the tricks and get the same smoothness. Instead of luggin around one of those steadicams....not to say the shots sucked...but im jus saying instead of having to lug around that thing jus use that technique and you get a good shot.

but for on the fly editing and learning..it was good.

i give you a

well the cam that was used had no handle. Also I wanted to try out the homemade stediecam I made shown here...he loves to edit I like camera work. We work well together.

When I use to film skating with my Hi8 I would just hold it from above, have my hand through the strap and have it cupped in my hand. Never had really any problems with it shaking. The last part in the video was good. That guy had some good speed and tricks up his sleeves. I'm also in the process of making a skate/snowboard video for a shop where I use to live in Northern Cal.

Cool I really liked his work and skate/BMX/snowboard vids are fun to edit an watch.

This reason for using the stedicam is that the shake was too much handheld even with EIS...we seem to both be anal about good stable shots so I made a stediecam. The following movie I edited 99% of it myself. Alot of it execpt for the flying skater shot (my fav) was used with the stediecam. Running with it was great and the results are impressive I think (you can see my shadow with it in a few shots). The actual purpose of this video is to propose an editing class for the school I work at...thus the end credits and interview.
