Hello , i need some advice... in about 3 weeks we are going to premiare a skateboard video that i have been working on for the past year or so
at a local Cinema , but the problem is that i am not sure what the output should be.

Will it look fine if i just make it to DVD 4:3 or would i need to make it at a higher output say upscale it to HD and make it 16:9 ?

Thanks

Leo

well how did you shoot ? 4:3 or 16:9? (norm or squeez)
if you already shot the stuff on a specific formate I wouldn't try messing with it.

I'm pretty sure the cinema place doesn't have an HD projector and it wont matter if you uprez to HD anyway.
good luck with it tho.

I would go ahead and letterbox it in post if you originally show in 4:3 but if you shot in 16:9, then there you go! All theaters have big wide screens, so why not take advantage of that? Go ahead and uprez to 720 or 1080 so it doesn't pixelate. If you're not familiar with exporting to a 16:9 aspect ratio, then just make sure where it asks how you want to preserve the aspect ratio, put crop, other with it will be a letterboxed 4:3 video OR a letterboxed 4:3 video stretched to fill the 16:9 frame! I am assuming you're using FCP or Premiere?

Thank you for the helpful words , i will try Andy's method but there is one problem i have some clips in 720p60 and when i import them into FCP the quality is not the best , is there some other way to make those HD clips stand out?

Were they recorded on an HD camera or the DVX and then uprezed? When you say the quality is not the best, is it pixelating, artifacting, etc... Also, what kind of timeline are you putting the clips into?

I have the same question as vx1k

I shoot 30p, squeeze, and edit with premiere

how will shooting squeeze effect the final output of my footage to the big screen.

only difference is that instead of skating I shoot BMX

thanks :)

Anything fast moving, I use 60i. Since the DVX is not natively 16:9 :[, squeeze is the closest you can get to it. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that using letterbox on the camera is actually not the same aspect ratio as 16:9. Squeeze will cut off the resolution on the top and bottom a little, but if you export as 1080 or 720, you won't even notice. Since projectors can make a bigger image with a smaller resolution, exporting as 1080i will look great! I have projected a project I did on my old VX2000 in 16:9 mode and it looked fantastic in 720p!

they where filmed on a hvx200 , i dropped it in to a pal timeline , because i am from asia and the filmer from 411 anthony was using his hvx200 so i guess it would have been ntsc yes it is
pixelating, artifacting
