Alright so putting together my first short film, shooting Feb 09. I wrote and produced a short film last summer but this will be my first time behind the camera. What I have accomplished so far:

-cast two beautiful young actresses (one is flying herself from sunny hawaii to cold as hell in february Canada)
-secured free DVX100a for shooting w/ basic Lowell 3 light package
-free location (ie my house)
-private investment of $500 - my friend + scratch ticket + dumb luck = :)
-experienced make-up artist
-in talks to license music from American metal band "nachtmystium"

Still need to do:
-DOP! (don't want to do this myself but of course will if have to)
-CREW!!! Like pulling teeth in Alberta apparently, posted lots of ads but I don't know many other people into film (or into film and have talent/experience/basic knowledge)
-umm yeah too much stuff aaaaaa (ok enough drama)

Basically I am learning a lot as I go. I love this website it has been extremely useful thus far. I will keep everyone posted on my tale of an innocent young woman and her murderous/incestuous/given-to-forceful-imprisonment older sister.

Wow, seems like you got something going on.

I'm in Ontario, I'll see If I can fly down to be your D.P :)

How much did you win exactly from that ticket?

Actually my friend won, oh lets call it a goodly sum for a healthy young man, so he's planning on covering equipment rentals for sound and a few other expenses totaling around $500.

Its coming together nicely so far, the short I was involved with last summer got way out of hand. My friend/mentor Larry Kent (check imdb) was directing so tons of people got involved and we had all this equipment and basically everyone was doing their own thing. I didn't have (or feel I had) the experience or knowledge to keep things on track and the film will probably never be finished. But, what a learning experience.

On this short I feel like I actually have some idea what is going on and have kept it to one location and a small cast. I definitely have an "If there's no one to do it I'll just frakkin' do it" attitude which has helped a lot in life. But I know I can't direct, shoot, and worry about sound all at the same time so the search is on.

Yeah ideally the whole cast and crew will fly from all over the globe, easily spending ten times the total budget for this short :)
