single shot cinema???? WTF!!!!!!

What's the big deal?

It looks like the camera op's got one of those strap-on-crane deals going on. The bridge walking looks scary... is that what you're talking about?

I watched it again and there is a guy crouching behind the car in the end of the car shot....

"strap-on-crane deals" hmmm...maybe...I' don't know what that is....
Someone here linked a site with a jib arm that's operable similar to how a steadycam would be strapped around the torso.

If I run across it I'll post it.

But, basically, you could walk around and jib-n-move all you wanted.

I thought that it was pretty impressive. Little bumpy and what not, but I would love to see what the device looked like. That shot of the guy walking on the bridge was great. The overhead shot made my knees weak.

I don't think the big deal is about the shots themselves, but just the fact that this is probably some DIY contraption that didn't cost $20,000 + operator. Long live the indie spirit! Now I'm off to see if I can dig up a pic of it and then I'll probably be off to the metal yard for supplies.

EDIT: However he does it... it seems to be top secret. He (Leonard Retel Helmrich) actually has seminars on how to do this technique. I'm intrigued.

holy crap..thats amazing. The car scene is fantastic..something Id definatly do. The walking scene is crazy, wonder how much that guy got paid to walk up there.

Ummm... not really. It says right there on the caption that if you email him, he'll send you the specs on how he does everything.

Car shot was fantastic. Like stated, I'll bet it was three people. First ran up to the car and handed it to someone laying on the floor in the backseat> he does the sweeparound the car and hands it to another person out the other window and lays back on the floor. Meanwhile (at the end), we catch a glimpse of shooter #1 crouching behind the car after his handoff.

Yea, I emailed him. In today's world... if the details about something can't be found on the internet, then it is top secret as far as I see it. But thank you for what felt like a slight attempt at making me feel stupid.

I'm sure you are right about the car shot... it was pretty jumpy. The train track stuff is what is blowing my mind. The camera (PD150 from what I read) was all over the place and appeared to be moving very easily.

We will see if he emials back.

some nice moves, but too shaky for my tastes - however with FCS2's new steady shot plugin - maybe that could be fixed!

Now I just need the bloody Mac Pro to arrive and I can actually do something with the shiny new monitor, RAM, and FCS2 that are sitting idly on my desk.
