Single PCMCIA

Well 1 GIG a minute is about the same as a PCMCIA download in a powerbook so it looks like my reservations were wrong. Go for it then!

fyi, transfer rates: usb 2.0>usb, usb 2.0>firewire 400, firewire 800> firewire 400

so if this unit is usb 2.0 than it's good to go. the a/v has been captured live already (camera and p2 card) all we just want to do is dump the file onto a harddrive and not live stream it; so usb 2.0 is fine.

if it makes life easier why not inlude both intputs (FW and USB 2) like most hardrives have

Barnstormer, I would also like to know the progress on this device. Still an Oct 1 release date? Do you have a link to your companys website?

In real world application, firewire 400 is noticably faster than USB2. USB2 480mbit transfer rate is the burst speed, firewire 400mbit is sustained. I'm okay with either one on this device though.

Again, USB2.0 has a BURST transfer speed of 480mbps. Firewire400 has a SUSTAINED transfer speed of 400mbps. In the real world, this means for copying media ( like P2) firewire400 > USB2.0

Example: my HDD has a firewire400 and USB2.0 interface. Using HDtech for benchmarking, I get an average speed of 30MB/s ( megaBYTE) on USB2.0 and 40MB/s on firewire400.

Has anyone out there gotten a reply from Barnstormer (or know of any develpments elswhere re such adapters)?

Same here. It seems kind of odd that no one has brought one out already. There appears to be a pretty swift changeover underway from pcmcia to expresscard slots on pc's as well as the mac laptops.

My contacts with duel systems indicates that it is about to enter beta testing.

I see this product as existing, and still being developed.

Patience is a virtue

ha! did catch the emoticons and figured as much. was encouraged by David's observation that beta testing had begun on the DuelSystems product.

May turn out to be too late for me anyway, though. Had hoped to go with a macpro laptop, but may have to go ahead w/ a pc to get on with my business...
