Singh Ray vari ND protection with filter?

How do you protect your vari ND? Should you use a UV filter in front of it? Would this cause any vignetting?

I was thinking you could also just get a 77mm clip on cap and use the filter bare, any thoughts?

I use a Hoya UV filter on top of mine. Its just a apain to keep clean because I've been filming a short at the beach with sand and wind but, it does the job and I don't see any image degradation.

I have finally made peace with not using uv filters on my lenes all the time. I just could not stand the ghosting problems anymore.

@filmkid If I am at the beach I would definitely have a UV filter on.

+1 to not using them usually these days and

also +1 to using one on a sandy, sunny beach!

So far, I haven't had any ghosting problems with mine whatsoever. I even shoot with a UV filter on the lens BEHIND the Vari ND filter to soften the image a bit since the GH13 and GH2 to me tend to look a tad too sharp... especially with the pancake lens. Plus, that way I don't have to keep taking the UV filter on and off the lens when I don't shoot with the Vari ND.
