GH2 Since we can now achieve 132mbs, Whats the future of the GH2 Hack and its updates?

Interesting thread...

The thing is, if we didn't try and push the boundaries we'd never know - I for one am not simply after a huge bitrate so I can turn round and say mine is better than yours- my goal is to see what the codec can achieve and how to implement the settings to achieve great looking results at various resolution and GOP settings. If I find I cant obtain quality without having to push the bitrate up for a short GOP then sobeit, I'l damn well do it because I can and I may need this setting for future film project.

I am about to embark on a project that requires GH2s (alongide a couple of EX3s) for various fast action scenes. This has driven my own testing of the hack all along.

I see very few people actually testing the hack of late but a helluva lot of people ARE prepared to knock down the time and effort of others without even bothering to look at actually what is going on. We need more testers. Its plain to see its worth it.

Yo Driftwood,

I think there are A LOT of us who are really behind what you're doing, and are watching very closely with great respect. We just don't say much publicly.
Maybe because we're not at your level of technical understanding... you guys are the rocket scientists and we're just glad to be along for the ride.

Agreed, my partner and I are Canon 7D shooters primarily. I got into the GH2 in the beginning of the year and already sold a few here and there. I plan to keep this camera because of the capabilities you guys are unlocking on it.

.....can you post the link or patch for this new 132mbps for gh2 ...thanks (also cannot download the patch driftwood posted on the other site on my mac)

Ditto. I mostly just watch the threads, but I'm a huge fan of the hack and all of it's testers. Thanks for pushing the envelope for guys like me.

FWIW...I have used the GH2vk on several short projects and it's proved to be an improvement over the stock firmware. Haven't tried the 132 mbps yet, but will soon. Thanks to all you testers!

I for one is grateful for Driftwood's efforts, and watch with interest to see how far things go.

My own efforts to test is limited to the memory cards I have, but the images I've captured with the hacked gh2 are amazing, and is immediately distinguishable from my workhorse Canon t2i footage.

I am getting images I've previously only dreamed of.

It's been a week, or so, since I slowly waded thru the threads @ www.personal-view.com, & it seemed the only truly stable settings were around 32 bit, or so.

Has that changed? Has anyone discovered higher quality AVCHD that reliably spans files, & doesn't otherwise error?

Thanks,
Bern
