Sin City was pretty much done in SoftImage XSI by a company ouf of Montreal called Hybride. There is a trailer on Softimages website discussing what the company did in the movie. Go Canada go.

if the worked on spy kids 3d and shark boy and lava girl then they need to stop that and stick too sin city.

I remember reading, that 3 different post-production houses were involved. One per chapter.

Hey guys, don't know if you float around the Screen Grabs/Clips section, but I did a trailer for the Austin Film Festival using a 'green screen' and spoofing the look of Sin City. It was actually 9 pieces of green poster board taped together.

Tell me what you think. I know the audio is a piece of crap, but other than that, I think I nailed the look of Sin City.

haah that's a nice little short. I don't know about the red background, that seemed to be a distraction. I think rain particle effects would have been more sin cityish, but I am quite impressed with the look.

Any tutorials you could make on how you did it?

Here's my try. I couldn't get Vegas to truly key the green screen. It might have something to do with .jpg artifacts. And I couldn't get the details in the yellow face like they did. Maybe Magic Bullet would have helped, but I don't have it installed on my laptop. Stonehenge, just for fun!

yah, the red background was supposed to symbolize the flashback. the rain particle effects didn't look that great when we put them on there, so we did snow instead.

tutorial wise, all i can really say is that proper lighting is the key to any good "keying"....yah that was corny, but you know what i mean. we had two lights evenly lighting the green screen, and then a work light used as our back light, and then another light as a fill light.

all the special effects were done in Motion. if you go through the tutorials on it, then you will know how to do the snow. the backgrounds were all shot on a basketball court in my neighborhood about a week after we shot the character footage. nothing else i can really say except that we did a few tests to make sure we got the lighting and keying correct.

Heres my attempt....I did it in Vegas 6.0

The chroma keyer isnt all that great in Vegas...if they come out with a new Vegas anytime soon..they should definitly improve the Chroma Keyer...
