Sin and Immorality? J.C. and a DVX to the rescue!

Technically, I thought it was very good. I've gotten similar results with a home-made static adapter (although not quite as good :)). I would suggest maybe changing the font and/or make it a bit translucent, because that text kind of distracted me. I doubt anybody at your church would care, but just thought I'd give my suggestion.

Good work, none-the-less!

Very proffessional. I could've easily seen it on Dateline [Stone Philips, I wonder if he's hard when you try to tackle him, like, he's a wall of...stone] or one of those shows.

I think your best shots and "looks" were definitely when he was in the various rows of seats, maybe I just have always loved green hues, but that worked very well.

This guy was like...made to do things like this, he has that face and voice. Very nice work chap.

Super8,
Great work -very well shot and edited. I was wondering if you could elaborate on how you go that look - specifically how you did the parts that jump around alot; and what is this DOF adapter you are talking about? Is it the same thing as the telephoto adapter?

Thanks, keep up the good work.

Hey guys:

back from a minin vacation....gee I'm glad you guys liked it...thanks for the remarks.

So here it goes......how did he do that? Very easy. First of all, I am very old school when it comes to adding filters to the camera, cine-like gamma's etc. i am a true believer of trying to shoot and keep your raw footage as clean and "virgin" as possible. i learned this long time ago from working with film. i know with video you can do more...but I prefer to do all that in post. This way I allow myself to get more looks while mantaining the original "clean"

With this said, i did not add any of the cine-like gamma curves or even played with the enhanced image adjustments. The only thing I did was to create a custom scene file where I changed the following parameters:

DETAIL LEVEL +3
CHROMA LEVEL +4
CHROMA PHASE +2
COLOR TEMP 0
MASTER PED -5 (gave me nice blacks)
A. IRIS LEV -1
GAMMA NORM

that's it. Off course I added my static 35mm adapter I have been working on. When I took the footage to Final Cut Pro, I just adjusted and lowered the blacks a tad more, aas well as adjusted the mids and whites to a positive...all done in the color corrector.

Finally, I added a Eureka filter called Film Look Suite and chose the default General Warm Filter. Thats it...simple and easy.

Hope that helps...look below for my static adaprter.

cheers!

thanks for the info. How does that attach to your camera? I'm not getting it - it looks like the threads would be smaller then 72mm.

ooops..I forgot to include the other ring. i got a step down ring from 72mm to 55mm...
had to do the whole adapter as a 55mm because i wanted to use the HOYA's +10 macros and i couldnt find any size but 55mm.

By the way...the parts that jump around is very easy to do. When I am in a shoot, I never shut of the camera...so those jumping around movement are what I call "on-purpose" mistakes. My style of editing is very edgy and I use everything that I shoot...mistakes or not. In the middle of the interview I asked the subject to stand in front of a white backdrop.....and while I adjusted the camera for his height, the tripod was being moved back. In post I used that movement and accelerated 500% until any part that I like...at which point I slow mo it to 50%. So you get a furious action followed by a slo mo......'

:)

The lens is an old Chinon M42 thread..nothing fancy.
plenty cheap ones on Ebay and the mount is real easy to adapt to an empty filter ring.
works like a champ!

Thanks for the tips and the pic's. I really like how the interview came out. How many filters do you have on there? It looks like a lot. Could you share as to what the exact set up is and why you chose that?

Thanks again,

Super film. Well executed with meaning.
Goodwork fella.

Its got me thinking about my mums telephoto lens....ummm I guess with the right adapter/ stepdown ring you could attach any lens to the DVX.

I haven't written in a long time, but I thought you needed some kudos. Great work. It's so refreshing to see something good in addition to being well-delivered visually. After leaving Sin City, I felt like I needed a shower. Keep it up!

Those rear elements are mostly "optical tube" right? Can you tell us where the macros and gg are within the larger collective device?

I liked the short - it presented one man's personal transformation and revelation without the typical recruitment push. One thing that I thought might add or perhaps might make it better would have been substituting a backlit shot of a church instead of the floating cross / guy with a cross on the beach elements. At that point he might've been talking about crucifixition or something, but the foamcore cross just didn't quite work for me.

Really great edits and I liked that ghosting work you did in the theater as well. Again, just splitting hairs here, but how cool would that same set up have been in church pews?

Thanks for sharing a great piece!
