Sin and Immorality? J.C. and a DVX to the rescue!

Hey gang....

Rememeber the "schoolgirl screengrabs" posting a couple of weeks ago and how it just unleashed a whole discussion by a DVX User of how we "are going to burn in hell" for posting such rubish?

Well somewhere in that thread there was a question posted as to how no one posts something more "Godly"...well so here it goes. My local church asked if I could shoot a testimonial for someone getting baptised on Sunday. Just a simple, click and shoot.

I decided it would be a perfect opportunity to just play around with my new static adapter and all the new film looks I am trying to achieve with lens+DVX. Shooting Super8 and 16mm is just breaking my bank. Sometimes "we have no budget" means to me "go crazy creative."

Choose your flavor and if religion is not your cup of tea...there is always a cold brewsky around the corner.

Thanks for the response....

One thing I did learn is that when you are using a static DOF adapter make absolutely sure to take off the electronic stabilizer off....it really did a number on me. For some reason every time the subject moved....the camera shook to wherever the subject went. Off course I coudnt see it cause i was using the camera screen and I didnt detect it...but when I saw it in the studio it almost killed me.

The colors on a monitor look real good...very filmic. It will be interesting to see how it looks on Sunday on a huge jumbotron

Cool! ...so where can I buy Jesus? It reminds me of a TV commercial.

The film emulation effects are awesome though!

very powerful presentation. did feel a little commercial when you used text on the screeen, but not sure if that diminishes or accentuates the piece. think it depends on personal taste.

Jesus figurine...$49 bucks
Jesus in your heart.....priceless :)

I'm pretty happy with the film emulation...still got a lot to learn with using the DOF adapter...I think with time and stock emulation I will say good buy forever to Super 8 and 16mm stock and processing fees.

you are right with the "commercial" feel. I did agonized over adding titles. At the end I tried to give the audience a feel they would be accoustomed to rather than the typical "church" video...the real yawners. No offense, but I have sat through one too many of those at my local church...always asking...geez why doesn't anyone do better work...until one day it dawned on me that who better than me to do them. What a change.....do it yourself! :)

thanks for the feedback

I'm not a religious man and usually get uncomfortable when I see videos about religion but your short doc was awesome and even though all docs are subjective, yours merely captured this man in a moment of his life and I like that. Very good work!

This is really well done. You managed to make this meaningful without coming off as preachy. Good work. :engel017:

yeah totally, when I watched it i didnt feel like I was watching a christian video you know?

unbias, and subjective.

That was awesome, especially since in a few weeks I may be doing just this very thing. I love the look but its personally not my style.

I love the music, where did you find that?

Honestly it's inspiring to see something like this being done, if only because it gives me an idea of where I can go when I start doing these testimonial/babtism videos.

doing this style of doc's is kind of hard to sell. Not many like it 'cause they think it is too edgy..yet I try to to always make the sell. I have yet to find someone that has been totally disgusted by the style. :)

Concerning the music, I use a house called Groove Addicts. They have really awesome music at very good prices. You buy the rights to the piece and determine what tpe of market it will play. Fos something like this I believe I am paying $99 bucks. They use real instruments on all their pieces and you can make your production sound like a million bucks. I used to break my head trying to find suitable music from the cheapy buy-out houses only to be frustrated. They have an extensive online search with real cool descriptions. As a matter of fact I was looking for inspirational music and one of the descriptions was "girl looks out the window and sees other kids play...she longs to be with them but can't cause she cant walk" ha ha..I mean it is sad but kind of funny description.

Thanks for the responses

Very cool, good job. You've almost got the super8 look nailed.

What DOF adaptor and aux lens did you use? Also, the CC film emulation, how much was in cam and how much was post (what did you post this with?)? Looks really good. I shot a lot of Super8 coming up and your film looks good.

How did you get that old film look? Is it a filter you used in post? Magic Bullet maybe? Or you get that after using the DOF, i don't know, tell me man!!

O I know that he's priceless, I was just making a remark that the shot reminded me of one of those medicine comercials where the patient is giving their testomony, while they are dance on the beach or somthing  .
