F3: Simultaneous SDI to recorder and HDMI output with the F3?

The camera can do this, but I have to put "Dual-Link & Gama Select" to the "Off" setting first to see the "HD SDI & HDMI" option pop up for me under "SDI/HDMI/i.Link I/O Select" menu. Otherwise it is not there at all. :-/

Which leaves me wondering, if I'm using both SDI and HDMI at once with "Dual-Link & Gama Select" set to "Off", is s-log still be utilized and can I still record it at 12bit 444?

I've run into the same problem and have never been able to get slog444 SDI recording and HDMI output to work simultaneously.

In the end I went slog444 via SDI into my Odyssey 7Q+ and then out to a second monitor / EVF via the mini HDMI port on the Odyssey.

Unfortunately I am using a Samurai Blade (which is SDI only) and a cheap FeelWorld FW759 monitor (which is HDMI only). I might need to spring for an SDI to HDMI convertor :-/ :-( As I'd like to be able to hang the FeelWorld FW759 off the back of my F3 so the director can follow what I'm shooting while it is on my shoulder.

The samurai can only record 10 bit 4:2:2 so I would (and do) get the image from the monitor SDI anyway. This also gives longer battery life.

Oh yes, I do know it can only do 10bit 422, I was making a more general comment though about recording from SDI and simultaneously monitoring over HDMI. Can't it seems :(
And can't do it via the Samurai Blade either as it has no HDMI out :( :( Got to get a convertor unfortunately.

Having recently jumped back on to the F3 bandwagon, I'd like to make a shoutout to the Odyssey 7Q/Gratical Eye combo with the camera. These two pieces of kit truly bring the camera happily forward into 2016. You get 10-bit 4:4:4 and up to 60fps at 10-bit 4:2:2, recording to either uncompressed .DPX or ProResXQ, and (almost) more importantly, you get full LUT support and every monitoring feature you could ask for.

At that point, the camera basically just becomes a sensor box. But as a package the whole thing becomes really very usable, the image quality as good as it can be, and the recording and monitoring features you need to work smoothly and efficiently are all there.

And sticking with just SDI connectors just keeps everything running smoother with the camera (rather than having to rely on, or make compromises for, HDMI).

Nice.

I'm the same boat and the Odyssey 7Q+ makes it possible. My setup looks similar to yours although I really wish I had the armor....
I drive an EVF / 2nd on board monitor and directors monitor with mine.

The Odyssey is one of the best thought out pieces of hardware I have ever owned. Amazing value for the money.

Why do you wish for the armor? I've stripped mine down to make it as lightweight as possible.

The armor adds some sturdiness, mounting points and slims the camera body down a little. The extra weight doesn't bother me having started out with film cameras. I've made my peace with the bulkiness of the F3. If you want to shoot anything but XDCAM it's always going to end up being a sizable rig.

The advantage of the armour is precisely that - that is strips the camera down, shaves off all the unnecessary gack that made the camera ergonomically awkward in the first place.

The change to the weight is minimal, but the ease of rigging and working with the camera is greatly improved. To me it feels very much like my F5 did - I needed a monitor for my ACs then, and the O7Q serves that function now (whilst also doing the recording). And the Gratical Eye gives you the proper EVF that the camera never had for the operator.

And perhaps most importantly, I don't have the flex in the native top handle that would make me worry that the camera was about to snap in half and send my CZ.2 zooms hurtling to the ground - you can't put a price on sleeping well at night!

With this setup, it means the only time I need to go into the menus is to change my framerate over to 30p/50p/60p for slowmotion recording - and that makes life better with this camera.

Ahhh.... yes, just noticed of course the native side grip gets removed. Yeah, I suppose I could see how that would be a good thing!

I have my F3 bolted to a 14 lbs Cooke T3 18-100 and the native handle gives me nightmares.

I usually bearhug the rig and lift it from he baseplate... It's a fairly ridiculous looking maneuver, but better safe than sorry.
