Simple Question Regarding Transcoding

I'l be short and to the point.


When transcoding a longgop format like XDCAM EX or HDV to an I frame format like ProRes and such, is there a slight loss of quality, seeing that the information in those frames was never there?

I mean, by removing all the redundant info, they're virtual frames aren't they?

If the quality of the codec you're transcoding to is higher than your source, there isn't much loss if any. The long-gop frames just get mapped onto I frames.

In short, not really.
