simple Q h4n+ntg2 , works?!

Just as I suspected, the current 1.60 firmware changes nothing with respect to sampling and bit rate.

So unless someone can show a photo otherwise, in stereo/Stamina mode, the Zoom H4n is only 44.1kHz/16bit, no other sampling bit rate options in stereo. The WAV/MP3 button is disabled in Stamina mode.

To get 48/16 or 48/24, 4 channel (NOT Stamina mode) is required. IN 4 channel mode, the WAV/MP3 button is enabled and allows 4 recording formats, 44.1/16, 44.1/24, 48/16, 48/24.

I've been using the H4n for 14 months and know it quite well for recording with external mics, lavs, boom mics.

Really!

I'm sitting here looking at it.
I'm not in stamina mode
I'm in stereo (2 Ch)
My choices in wav are:
44.1/16
44.1/24
48/16
48/24
96/16
96/24

and...I haven't upgraded the OS.

It accepts the choice of 48/24 and records fine.

Peternap,

This is nuts.

With Stamina mode off, my H4n defaults to 4 channel with no method of changing to stereo only. How are getting to be in Stereo with Stamina off then?

And how do you see 96/16 and 96/24. They don't exist on my H4n anywhere.

What firmware number are you running?

I figured it out finally.

You are correct, I can't believe I have missed that setting for over a year.

In the MENU -> MODE -> Stereo/4CH/MTR with Stamina off, so Stereo can be selected.

Thank you! That's one setting I had never noticed, reason being, with Stamina on, MENU -> MODE does not exist. Only shows with Stamina off and was always set to 4CH at that point.

You rock. That solved a long time headache using the H4n.

System: 1.50
Boot:1.01

I have a firmware upgrade but didn't install it because it didn't look like it offered any advantages for what I use it for.

It's interesting why the difference so I emailed Zoom to clear it up.

I just saw your last post. I was starting to think Senility had finally caught up with me.

It would have to be crazy to only allow it in 4 channel. You'd have to go into the equalizer and mute the on-board mics to keep them from picking up all the room noise.
