Simple DVX newb question.

As long as the camera in on and a tape is in there it "ticks". it doesnt have to be recording. (i duno if thats the same thing as what perrone said)

So for all functional purposes, it's going to be the time I have it powered on, as I don't see a reason to be on and not have a tape inserted.

Sound about right ???

No.

There are two EXCELLENT reasons why the camera would be on without a tape.

1. You are using an external recorder. (Like a Firestore)
2. You are providing a live feed only and don't need to record

I bought my DVX in 2004. It has 124 hours on it. Believe me, it's been on and in use for a LOT more than 124 hours. Generally in both scenarios listed above.

I have been unable to stop the flashing red "no tape" icon despite setting it to ext while using a Firestore. What am I missing?

Strange. It had been getting on my nerves and so I inserted a tape just to stop it. That's how I discovered the hour meter keeps rolling while a tape is just sitting inside.
