simple cutting

Is there a setting I can make so that when I delete a clip the clip after it automatically slides back? Or if I insert a clip into the same video line, the clip after it will slide forward?

This seems like something simple, I've been using premiere pro 1.5 for awhile and if I wanted to insert a clip I would just alternate tracks, but now that I have 2.0 I decided to find a real answer. Thanks in advance guys.

That's how the REALLY old premiere worked. I don't think you can do that now, but you know if you hold down shift, you can shift the chunk you selected AND everything to the right of it over. That way you can drop your clip in without any problems, and then select the footage and hit shift again, and drag it back over.

Thanks for the quick reply, I actually did not know that shift dragged the rest over. By habit, I somehow always did it pretty efficiently, but this will definitely help.

You CAN do it. (at least in 1.5)

Hold down [shift] when you delete any clip and it will "Ripple delete" the clip moving everythign over from the right. It's also available form a clips "right click" menu.

To insert edit, just hold down [Ctrl] and it will bump everything over to the right to make space for your clip. You can also hit [,] to insert a selected clip in the bin (or 'source' monitor) onto the selected track at the edit line.
