The morning after a night of hard partying leaves Simone unsure of the events that took place. The mystery deepens as her focus becomes clear, leading to a chilling discovery.
We are currently in post production on our 4th short film, "Simone". It was scribed by a very talented UK writer, Frazer Lee. He is the writer/director of the award-winning short horror films "On Edge" and "Red Lines". He also directed the commercial campaign for True Horror With Anthony Head (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame) for Discovery Channel.
The film is produced by Michael Long and directed by Jason “Joops” Fragale. All of our dedicated crew, plus several more, returned for “Simone” and as usual, gave us 110%. We were reunited with the incredibly talented actress, Jennifer Ward (Parting), and graced with newcomer Erin Nicole Cline, who co-starred alongside.
After acquiring the script sometime in early October, we decided to "fast-track" it, and try to get it shot before the holidays, I know...crazy! We succeeded by completing principle photography, after a 3-day shoot, on November 15th. The film was shot entirely on a pair of "out-of-the-box" dvx100's (still the best on a budget). Lighting was done with about 8,000 watts of tungsten (fuses a-poppin'), and audio was captured to a Marantz PMD670 Digital Recorder. This is the exact same setup we've used on our previous 3 films, plus a few audio "extras", and new lights, gels and monitor. We used a Glideshot 8' jib, dolly and tripod for a shot or two, as well as good old fashion arm strength shooting.
We were lucky enough to complete principle photography, after a long 3-day soot, on November 15th. Sadly, on the final day of shooting, our primary DVX was inadvertently “pulled” by it’s connected monitor cable from a desk to the tile…the room went silent. While it landed lens first, amazingly it received only minor cuts and bruises, and it finished it’s job. Subsequently if anyone has an old “parts” DVX lying around, gimme a shout .
After all was said and done, we had a great time, and I believe we’ll have our best film yet!
The first rough cut was screened by a select few on a 120” screen, with great feedback. There is obviously a ton of work at the edit bay left to do, but with the progress we’ve made thus far, we expect to lock by the end of January. We also expect the finished product to be 15 minutes or less.
Thank you for reading my ramblings, I’ll update more as I have time. Also, please feel free to stop by our Facebook fan page (link in sig) for lots of photos and more updates.
Hey Jon, yeah...we had a blast! A good ole' fashion Michelob is a great motivator. I would never recommend it on the shooting set, but we do what it takes for rehearsals (hehe).
We're proud that SIMONE has done quite well lately, and has so far been officially accepted into 7 festivals. SIMONE has also commanded quite a few online reviews, which can be seen on our website, here: http://www.386films.com/home.html. We have been able to attend a few of the fests, and will be attending The "Carnival of Darkness" film festival at the Los Angeles Film School on October 28th. If you're in the area, we'd love to see you come out, say hello and take a peek at the film.
We're excited about the progress this film has made, and we're really looking forward to it's continued success.
Thank you to all on this board for the great advice, tips, tricks and support!
