SILVERSTEIN final - Quicktime

hey everyone. we posted the Silverstein video in quicktime form - check it out HERE

we'd love to hear what you think!

Awesome! Really well-done. I like the chaotic, yet controlled feel of the shots. And especially the lighting in the band's room. (The song wasn't bad either.)

What type of lens was used for the distorted perspective? Frame rate for the slow-mo at the end?

we used a fisheye lens on the HVX for the shots you asked about. this was without the mini35 lens attached. the slowmo at the end was 60 fps

thanks!!

Great band performance. I really liked the depth of the room they were playing in, with the use of blue, and the slight atmosphere. The grey walls added great contrast to the bright of the lights, and the shaky cam worked very well. How was it doing a video for such a large band? What was your pre production process like, getting this arranged both logically and legally?

thanks man. it was a great experience to work with a larger band and we hope the video does very well for them. both them and their label are really excited about the video.

pre-production was alot more work than normal. there actually wasn't anything "legally" planned out because the bank was a closed bank and totally empty (we hired a set decorator to make it look legit) and the performance was just a basement of a building that again, we designed to look like a hideout of sorts. we had to have insurance in place but other than that, it was just ALOT of planning.

hope this helps!

Did you work through management to get the video going, or through the band? How did you get introduced to these guys, because they are very popular...

we have a good relationship with the label and wrote a treatment that the band picked. alot of the videos we get we "compete" against other directors by writing a treatment and the band, label, and management pick the treatment that they like the best

NO I think you're right some portions seem to be shot in 30fps which I think is a great idea to show the difference in the 2 especially in something so fast moving...

we didnt shoot anything in 30p - we did however have a different shutter speed and do some sharpening to the image in post effects
