Signed distribution deal...

I signed an international distribution deal for my film a few days ago. It feels like a real anti climax and now i'm really nervous and worried about all the things i've hear about bad distributors and this and that and the other. Now we're getting prepared for the rental release and getting the DVD master made and so on, but it feels so weird to now no longer be primarily responsible for the film anymore.

UPDATE: Another BIG worry is the fact that now we are liable for all this stuff (deliverables) some of which we never ever had in the first place. This was a $9000 movie after all, and I mean we compromised a lot to get it in the can for that amount. I'm scared that may piss them off and make them say, okay guys we want to rip up your contract. Man I think i'm paranoid lol.

N.B. for people who asked, the above link to the podcast has an entry with a documentary about the making of the film. It was done with a DVX 100B

Huge congrats on your deal. That is really great and before you let the nerves and the new mountain of work that you have ahead of you completely consume you and take away the sense of accopmlishment that you should be feeling, I for one recommend big time celebration. Take a night off, get a good BOX of wine, a couple of nice cigars and just relax and think about the time before you went into preproduction on this and how far you've come. Enjoy it, and then get your ass back to work. Congrats again!

It is an international deal comprising of DVD sales and rentals, cable, television, internet and basically everything but theatrical. there will be no theatrical release. I don't want to say too much about the details of the deal, but it was good for us and good for them. It will be hitting Netflix first in the US once we can get the DVD ready, after that, well it's all hands on deck for each country and each market. Basically yeah, if this thing does well enough, unbelieveably I could be watching LIMBO on cable one day. Reviews have been fantastic, so I am optimistic of audience feedback.

The deal is with echelon/newmark entertainment out of LA U.S.A. THey've been around for ages and have an international network of buyers and attend virtually all the markets. I have heard of them and saw them when we went to Cannes in 2005. They are agreessive salesmen so that bodes well for us. They have projects with some bigger names, but since we had no stars in our film, the negotiations took months to get to the point where we were both happy.

Thanks a lot guys for the kind words. I always get worried about things like this. When you've made a film, you know that so many people screw you over when you least expect it. You have to keep vigilant. It ain't over anyway. I mean we have to close out all the contracts and get SAG to tell us how much we will owe the actors when money comes in and so on. It's really serious.

Yeah, but what were your scene settings? What kind of microphone did you use?
