Signal drops ... causes?

Hello!

I am getting an intermittent problem on my DVX100 (no "A").

Showing up during playback, we are finding digital signal drops (blockies in the picture, strange audio distortions) occurring ... oddly, when they happen, they only seem to happen when the subject moves or the audio gets louder ... if a subject is static with only moderate-to-low audio, everything "appears" to be okay.

This would seem to indicate that the problem is somehow related to the amount of information being recorded, but I know enough to know that it could be all sorts of things.

Curious to find out if anyone has had similar problems. Perhaps I should just pack it up & send it in for a tune-up? (There are 155 hours on it.)

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Spike

Sounds like dirty heads. I'd guess that the drops on motion are not a true example of what's happening; I'd bet that the drops are happening on the static stuff too, but because the motion is static it's just repeating the stuff that was in the prior frame, so you don't really notice it.
