Sigma or Canon telezoom lens for FS700

Hi there,

I'm shooting a lot of action sports and I don't always have the opportunity to get close to my subjects. That's why I'm looking into buying a tele zoom lens for my FS700+metabones EF adapter.

I was looking into the Canon 100-400, which would give me a nice range but it's not the fastest lens and no weather sealing.
Another option would be the Sigma 70-200 f2.8, combined with a 2x extender. This would give me the same range as the 100-400 but also the 2.8 aperture for those times when I need it.
Problem is that I'm not sure that the Sigma lens combined with the extender will work on my camera. I searched the web but couldn't find any information on it.

Does anybody have any experience with these lenses? Which one would you pick?

Cheers,
Sam

You could also look at the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8. The new version if $3500+/- but you can find the older version for $1500+/- used. I would prefer the newer, but have had the older version for a while new and have tried on my FS700 with the Speed Booster. It's a frickin beast, so you will need a Rod based rig with lens support. You can also get a sigma teleconverter which would turn the lens into a 240-600mm f/5.6 or f/4 with the speed booster. From what I understand the newer version has better image stabilization and faster auto focus, neither of which is really usable for video through the speed booster anyways.

I went with the Canon 28-300 5.6

Much overlooked gem in my opinion!

With the Speedbooster thats a 28-300 with professional quality and f/4.
