Sigma fp

All of the pretty stuff was captured externally though which is the biggest pain, but can't complain much for the price.

I thought it does CDNG to a USB attached drive? That should be pretty good quality if you want to wrangle the data.

It does, it's nice...that's the external recording. Eventually got Atomos and BM support too.

Ideally this new L would keep it inside the body, but that's not happening with CDNG.

Oh boy this is cool. It's some wacko bird sensor with a 45-degree rotated CFA? 13.5k pixels wide? I'm a little confused as to how the pixels and CFA are arranged but it sounds like BM-style experimentation for greater resolution and color fidelity. It's gotta be more expensive than the original, though. And the spec sheet claims full readout in 12-bit at only 58fps.

reading thru l-rumors... looks like sigma fp-l might be released on march 23? the evf might cost ~$700? so i'm guessing the camera itself is $3000-3500?

Camera will have to be beyond good to cost that much.

[FWIW, although most likely obvious, Sigma is a Japanese company.]

I mean, if the camera is a full-frame ump 12k in a pocket body, that would be good and possibly beyond good. the a7riv lists for about $1400 more than the a7iii. the fp lists for $1900. i think there's no way the new one costs less than $2500. p6k pro is $2500 with a $500 evf, but of course a smaller sensor with lower resolution. if the sigma evf is really $700, then I might think that the body itself is more than $2500 or else the accessory is very expensive relative to the camera itself. obviously, i'm just spinning my wheels while we wait for answers, although guessing games are fun. what does sigma being japanese imply?

EVFs are always expensive...it's the one accessory that is supposedly difficult to make and it's not worth making or selling below a certain price.

They also have a LCD viewfinder, but much cheaper: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1510958-REG/sigma_al2900_lvf_11_lcd_viewfinder.html

And it implies they have to play nice. Can't go releasing crazy good cameras for a few thousand dollars. Specs will provide us an idea what exactly they have in mind with this product.

Not having continuous AF would be playing nice enough IMO. And requiring external storage/ recording if it does

Def...and cropped or 8-bit 60p. Add a severe RS for good measure and they can do whatever they want.

Based on the sensor info sheet, it might be 17ms RS which would be fine though not the wonderful 8ms readout some have. And if they could do 48fps at full quality, many people might be satisfied. Realistically, I wouldn't consider it without Sony-level AF. But I like tech advancements, and if it's totally mindblowing then I might have no choice but to buy one. I doubt it will be THAT good - it would have to have Alexa DR

Didn't F65 have a diagonal CFA? It's mostly done to eliminate moire.

F65 had gorgeous IQ but was an odd camera to operate. I thought that its sensor (17.6 MPS/4:2:2 4K) would appear in a lower tier replacement, something in the F-5 range, but Sony instead hit a home run with FS-7.

Off prior Sigma models with Sony sensors, I don't expect the new FP L to have a decent auto focus - or any auto focus making sense for video work - but 8K-for-$3K would definitely ruffle a few feathers. It'd give Jim Jannard a jolt for sure. And everyone at the Canon HQ.

I was close to buying the first one before the R5 teaser came out.

I took a hard look at it a few weeks ago as there were several used or open box versions on Adorama. I've graded some of the camera RAW clips and liked the images from it. However, the micro HDMI made me turn away from it, as I promised myself to never purchase another camera that has micro HDMI. The EVF-11 may solve that problem.

Wow, same pricing as the P6K pro. Of course, the pocket has some advantages, including ND. I wonder how the new fp sensor will perform
