Sigma Cine Lenses

Hey DVX,
I'm trying to pair down the collection of glass I've acquired over the last few years. I find that as I grow as a DP who does ALOT of work in post, I appreciate the quickness of using Zooms on set over primes.

I was curious if there was any word on the street about the 18-35mm, and the 50-100mm becoming Cine lenses? I've seen the 18-35mm converted by third parties, but was hoping Sigma might release these these two as manual lenses.

Anyone heard anything?

Anyone heard anything?

Are you willing to pay 4x to 5x the price of the DSLR version for a Cine version of these lenses ?

Just look at the price of the re-housed Zeiss ZF or ZE lenses ( or the Tokina re-housed lenses ) for an indication of how much a Cine version of these Sigma lenses would cost.

There has been some talk that Sigma may do the cine versions themselves. With IBC coming up, the talk may get warmer.

The question was less about cost and more about the probability of these becoming cinema lenses.

But If these were released as $4-5k cine lenses, with common filter sizes, witness marks, manual focus and aperture, you could cover an entire focal range at T2-ish for about 10 grand which to me is a bargain in time savings and cost for some DPs that work like me.

The Sigma 50-100 has a reputation for (at least some units) breathing a lot. Seem's like it could perhaps be considered more of a variable prime than a true zoom, especially for cinema uses.

I could see Sigma perhaps doing some sort of mod on their own...but wasn't it Tokina who released rehoused cinema versions of a couple of their lenses that were priced pretty much along the lines of GL Optics and Duclos?

If it were me (and it sort of is...), I'd wait until after IBC in early Sept and Photokina in later Sept to see what new offerings/ideas there are for cinema and still lenses that might interest us.

Maybe the GL Optics $3500-$4000 offerings is as cheap as we'll see. Or maybe for your work a non modified Sigma (or other) still zoom will work well enough...

Then I'd check in with GL Optics, Duclos, and ??? to see what they're offering and planning...And perhaps ask

FF and everyone, I'm curious to know what you all decide to do...

I think if they took their cues from Rokinon by offering "cine-ish" versions of these lenses at a modest markup they'd do a brisk business.
