In the past, I had checked out some of what RED users had for zoom lenses. RED used to sell a 17-50 and 50-150 zoom,
so I thought that might be a good combo to cover a pretty good range all with F2.8. I also got notice two weeks ago that
my place on the metabones 'waiting list' had come up, so I decided to buy it even though I have no Canon lenses....if
I wouldn't have, I'd probably be waiting forever if I ever decided I wanted one in the future. So I started looking
at EF lenses.....pretty easy to find a 17-50 for around $400. But the 50-150 was recently replaced with a new,
heavier version, which looks to be the same size and weight as the 70-200. I looked all over for the old Sigma
50-150 version which is pretty small and light, I figured I could use it without lens support, but hard to find
them around, one or two on Ebay in Nikon mount was all I could find. After a lot of searching, I found a 'demo'
used Canon mount version on B&H for a decent price and grabbed it. It came in yesterday so not a lot of time with it.
I'll do up a proper review in a couple days with video and all. But, big thing is, it works with the Metabones
adapter. It is NOT on the list of lenses that are approved to work. You have to go through a proceedure
outlined on metabones website to 'register' the lens with the adapter, but after that it works. Only downside,
it takes what seems like FOREVER to power up. You power up the camera and literally have to wait 2 minutes before
the lens actually is recognized. It threw me the first few times as the screen would come up with no F stop reading
or anything, but I finally figured it out, you just have to wait......and wait....but it DOES work!
Not only is the F stop shown in the viewfinder and adjustable, but so is your focus distance. As I said, more to
come.....in the meantime if anyone has any questions, let me know.
