What do you guys think of this lens? Has anyone here used it to shoot video on a DSLR?

I'm thinking I should get either this lens, or the Sigma 30mm f1.4 for a 7D.

Do you guys think that it's too wide for a general purpose all round prime lens? I wanna use it for narrative films and music-videos. It has a FoV of 32mm after (x1.6) crop. I was told most films are shot between 25mm - 35mm. This would be perfect, no?

Any feedback would be much appreciated :) Thanks :)

There was a thread on these boards a little while ago about the sigma fast wide macros. From everything I've seen they're quite good, especially for the price. I have the nikon mount 28/1.8 and use on my gh-1 quite often and I'm probably going to be getting the 20mm soon as well.

25mm - 35mm focal length on 35 mm movie cameras equal the field of view 50mm - 70mm on full frame still cameras yields and ehum... nearly exactly 25mm - 35mm on 7D.

Another reason I think the Sigma 30mm f1.4 is the perfect lens for you, Jean. If a friend of mine didn't already own it, I'd buy it myself. (But I can just use his whenever I want to.)

What stops me from getting the 30mm is I'm thinking that my lenses are going to outlast my camera. With things moving so fast, I want lenses that are going to work on all the things that are going to be coming out over this next year. If you know you'll never want a full frame camera then go for it but for me, I'm only buying full frame glass.

Thanks so much for the replies guys, much appreciated :)

I am still leaning towards the Sigma 30mm f1.4, but like djkran, the only thing that is putting me off is that the 30mm isn't "future proofed" and would not work on any sensor that is larger than APS-C.

My God, buying this 7D setup is much more complex then I originally thought lol

Thanks again! :)

Sigma 30/1.4 is worth it. If you can use it now...get it. Sell it on ebay when you step up to fullframe and make sure you have earned the $ 50 that you lose on the sale ;-)
