Sidney Lumet, RIP

Very sad about this. Loved 12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon, Network and my favorite Lumet film, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead.

I love that last part-

"I don't think art changes anything."

"So why make movies?"

"It's a wonderful way to spend your life."

RIP, Sidney.

How can anyone top Network, The Pawnbroker or 12 Angry Men? Jeez, what a career... I still remember scenes from these movies, all of which I saw at least 30 years ago at best, like yesterday. Just seared into the brain cells.

RIP Sydney Lumet. A thinking mans director. An inspiration. That's how I'll remember.

Going to pull his book out and read it again. Its so dog eared, probably be the last time I can.

Since no one's mentioned the title yet, it's Making Movies (also a great Dire Straits album), and I'll be the next to recommend it. Great book both for the layman interested in a sneak peek behind the scenes and especially for the aspiring director looking for insight and perspective on the process.

I was in the middle of reading his "Making Movies" when he died. Can't get through this one too quickly when you're underlining sentences and dog-earing every other page. He made some great movies! RIP
