side handle grip

The side handle grip is partly fixed to the DV door right?.. Since the HVX is rather heavy can the the door (opening/closing mechansim/lock) withstand the forces even after years of using the HVX??? Is there any play on the door????

i noticed the same thing yesterday...

i try not to think about it, and I try not to support the entire weight of the camera just at those contact points...

I do think it will be a problem over time... Just kind of a bad place to have the handgrip with the casset there. Mine already cracked.... the viewer spot plastic anyway and that happend after a weekend of shooting. Very poor design to have it on the DV door... guess it's a good thing I don't really shot much DV now ...

can you post a picture of the crack so we can see where the weak point is exactly? I think indeed that you should always support the HVX with two hands in a handheld shot to prevent to much force on the DV door. I agree that the design could be better. Maybe something for the HVX200a together with the better LCD screen, battery mount and a few other minor things. It would make the HVX perfect and those things are easy to do on a short notice and very low price increase.

I've had the same concern. Since I never use it for DV shooting, I'd personally have been happy with a P2-only version of the camera -- it would be smaller, lighter, and more robust.
