Shutting off the "Auto ND Filter?"

I have searched Barry's book back and FWD and can't seem to find the answer. Very annoying for the HPX170 to go into auto ND mode in the middle of a shoot. (no, the auto Iris is not on.) Is there a way to shut that feature off?

Thanks in advance!

There is no auto ND mode. The ND filters don't engage automatically.

The suggestion for ND filters pops up, but that's not a mode and it doesn't change anything, it's just alerting you that your image is overexposed or underexposed, and it's advising you that you should change the state of the ND filter.

HI Barry!

Thanks for your response! (such an appreciated luxury! :)

I think my camera was stolen and re-modified by aliens. It flashes ND (with percentage) and then drops the exposure automatically to compensate. What the?!! Maybe I'm missing something here? Could another AUTO mode of some sort be engaging?

Sounds like auto-iris must be on. There is no automatic shutter or automatic ND, so the only exposure change that could be happening is auto-iris.

Or you might have the auto knee on?

Or, on the HPX170, the DRS function might be kicking in? Do you have DRS enabled in the scene files?

Barry, you are a gentleman and a scholar.....

Yes, I checked both of those settings (DRS and Auto Nee) and both are automatically set (i.e. I cannot change them in Cine D)

I took the ol' HPX outside to duplicate the problem, and it seems when the iris is down around F11 or smaller, it begins to flash ND 1/4 at me (this happened INDOORS.)

When I open up, the ND flash stops. Very strange, but in the last two shoots, I would physically see the image get darker and I had to open up to keep that from happening (it ruined my exposure.) It seemed to be on some sort of AUTO mode.

I wish I could cancel this feature, alas....
