Shutter speed on FS700

Hey there!

There's an issue that I've recently stumbled upon, but have been unable to fully understand.

We all know that you should usually shoot with the shutter speed that's more or less twice the framerate (1/50 for 25fps for example). But FS700 allows for shooting with the shutter speed of 25! It works, gives us more light to work with and after an initial test of mine - seems pretty okay. But I'm sure the collective scientific mind of dvxuser can persuade me not to shoot in this manner. Maybe it's more prone to flicker? Or maybe the movement is too blurry for the "cinematic look"?

Tell me what you think!

Thanks for your reply!

So... 1/25 shutter speed causes the video to look too blurry, more like a 'bad night-vision video". Is that your opinion too?

Yeah, I'd stay away from that unless you are going for that specific look. The iso's are so clean on the 700, you shouldn't really need to use a shutter that low unless you are shooting at night in the jungle with no lights :) even then you'd probably be fine, just bumping the ISO

It's probably best if you shoot at 2x the shutter speed. With that said, IMO, it's a lot worse to shoot over 2x than it is to shoot under. Let's say you are shooting 60 fps at 240 shutter speed, it looks super stuttery. If you shoot under, like at 60 shutter speed, it's not that bad IMO; not nearly as crazy looking as super high shutter speeds anyway. I've shot a lower shutter speed for low light purposes and also for shots where we might want to retime it back to regular speed.
