Shutter Speed Help!!!

So i have been filming alot lately in 60p skiing and snowboarding and i have always just moved my shutter speed up to 1/2000 to get clear slow motion but i have been doing a lot of research and maybe that isnt the best option? What do you guys suggest that i shoot in for both slow motion and regular shots. Here are some videos that i shot with 60p 1/2000.

Upping to such a fast shutter speed is only going to take away your motion blur. That's an interesting question, of whether or not you'd desire less motion blur for a slo-mo shot. 1/2000 is definitely a tad extreme, but hypothetically, you might want to up it to 1/100 or 1/120. My intuition tells me that you should probably keep it around 1/60, though.

However, that's only a guess, and it would only apply to footage that is going to be slowed down to a point to which you aren't forcing your software to create any intermediary frames. Okay, so you're shooting at 60. Let's say you slow it down to 40% playback, to match the project's setting of 24p. In that case, every frame we see was actually shot, so a little motion blur might be nice.

If you slow the footage down to 20%, then you're stretching 12 frames into 24, forcing your software to create intermediary frames. A lot of people are using twixtor for this, but Premiere and FCP both do it, to a lesser extent. In that case, motion blur is going to make it more difficult for your software to create those magical in-between frames, so a faster shutter speed actually would help.

This is usually how i go. Film in 60p with 1/2000 shutter. Then i put it into premiere in a 720 60p project and just work from there. i occasionally slow down to around 50% at the most because after that it seems to chopping to look any good.. I like crystal clear slow motion so everyone that is watching can really look into what is going on and everything so that means as little motion blur as possible thats why i always thought that 1/2000 would be my best option but clearly i was wrong. and if i went to 1/100 or 1/120 wouldnt i technically being going down in shutter speed by making it slower and essentially have more motion blur?

clearly i was wrong.

Not necessarily. I'm doing some major guess-work here. I responded, because I think it's an interesting question, but you shouldn't view my response as authoritative.

Yes. For "normal" situations, motion blur is good, because that is what audiences are accustomed to seeing. I'm not so sure that's the case, in this respect, mostly because less motion blur will allow you to slow it down even further.

Are you asking for advice because you don't like the way your footage looks, or because you read something somewhere?

There's lots of motion in your videos and I think they look perfectly fine for what you're doing with them.
