Shutter Island by Martin Scorsese

Look great. I'm a fan of Scorsese. I don't have a film of his that I particularly like because I'm not a gangster anti-hero kind of guy, but I enjoy his style and his mastery of the art.

So I'm excited.

Yea it looks great. I agree on the "looking HD" part. No way is it 35mm...unless they used some new technique to process it. The 1080 image is far too sharp to have originated from film IMO. Some places in that trailer look so sharp in the details it's almost like it's sharpened in post, but my guess is on an HD cam.

I just finished the book... and for those that assume the entire story from the trailer.... how wrong they are

Pick up the book and read it... very very very interesting

What about The Aviator? I enjoyed that one a lot more than The Departed, which I wasn't a huge fan of.

You had me at Scorsese. There's a handful of directors whose films I'll see no matter what. He's one of them.

The movies probably wouldn't get made without him. I don't think Scorsces films have ever really made money, and the more Hollywood is owned by people who aren't really movie people, the harder I bet it is for him to get anything funded. So pairing up with a megastar like DiCaprio gets the cash.

I don't know why Leonardo keeps getting these "badass" roles. He's so skinny.

Yeah, I know. I like Mark Ruffalo though.

Anyway, if Matt Damon's character in the Departed met up with leo's and they had to fistfight, I'm fairly certain Damon would beat the **** out of him.
I like Di Caprio as and actor. He's a good actor. He just need to stop trying to be so manly. His facial hair growth pattern is worse than mine and I'm only 20.

IMDB says it was shot on both 35mm and 65mm film. No digital (Scorcese, like Spielberg, refuses to shoot digitally unfortunately), although they've obviously had fun with the DI.

Seems like Scorcese is trying to get back to the "Cape Fear" vibe. Feels very Hitchcockish. That's a good thing!

I'm really looking forward to this film. Saw the trailer today while watching Public Enemies and wow, it looks very interesting. Can't wait.

Yeah, I think this film looks amazing. Actually, if you go check out that funny short film he did where he shot a film from a few pages of a supposedly abandoned Hitchcock project, the look of this is very similar. Here it is if you haven't seen it:

What's crazy is I saw that a few months ago and it was SO on-the-nose as far as the Hitchcock style, even using Hermann's piece from The Man Who Knew Too Much (the Jimmy Stewart version), that I thought, "Hmmm... wouldn't it be awesome of Scorsese shot a whole film like this?"

And voila! Looks almost like Vertigo! Drenched in color. Now THAT'S using the DI process for good, instead of these movies where they pick a color and then the entire movie is basically shades of that color. Lord of the Rings did that at times and it drove me nuts... in the behind the scenes clips, I thought the shots looked better before the CC sometimes.

Saw it yesterday, I'm curious if anyone else noticed the film was poorly edited. But needless to say it was a good film, not great but good. I enjoyed it. Though I feel if this was in the hands of another lead beside Leo it could of been incredible.

This is the kind of role that needed a character actor. I must admit I felt a little sad at the end... 2 ½ stars out of 4.
