Shutter for effect?

I am just sitting here in the office and am curious about how adjusting the shutter rate can add effect to what you are shooting. Can anyone offer advice for a ball park on shutter settings for frantic hand held shots. I am going to try to do some experimenting this evening when I get home, but just wanted to find out what shutter setting I should explore. Thanks!

A slow shutter, just as in a single frame camera, will increase the amount of light reaching the sensors as well as increasing the amount of blur that motion (either the subject or camera) imparts on the image. Conversely, a fast shutter will decrease the amount of light reaching the sensors and will reduce the motion blur effect. Depending upon the degree of change, these differences can be anywhere from subtle to dramatic.
