Shutter control on AF100

Dear All:
I physically cannot control the shutter on the AF100.
(i) I would love to use the SHUTR/F.RATE dial in order to change the shutter. The dial works fine with variable frame rates when activated in the settings menu. However, when the dial select button is set to shutter (verified with MODE CHK, so it is definitely not locked) then I cannot change the shutter. If I understand the instruction manual correctly then the user should expect to see the shutter angel in the display. This unfortunately doesn't work.
(ii) I can changes the syncro scan shutter speed within the scene files, however, the settings don't have any effect at all. So the waveform monitor stays the same with shutter 90, 180 or 270 deg.
Any ideas, is this a bug ??? Firmware is version 1.15.

Use the Dial Select to choose Syncro Scan.
Then use the Shutter/Frame Rate dial to to dial in the shutter angle. For large adjustments, press the dial in and turn it up or down.

Is this what you're trying to do?

You have to change your shutter speed to the syncro scan setting, before the changes in syncro scan will apply. It's the shutter speed located between the fastest and slowest speeds.

Hi,
thanks for responding. I run the AF100 on PH1080/24P. If I push the DIAL SELECT button then the following options are displayed: (1) DIAL LOCK, (2) DIAL SHUTTER and (3) DIAL FRAME RATE. I am not given the option SYNCRO SCAN - it is missing at all.
If I choose option (1) DIAL LOCK and use the wheel then nothing happens (fine, it is locked)
If I choose option (2) DIAL SHUTTER and use the wheel then nothing happens (this is my problem)
If I choose option (3) DIAL FRAME RATE and use the wheel then I can change the frame rate as expected, so long I have set VFR MODE in the settings file to ON - fine as well.
... it probably sounds stupid but I cannot change the SHUTTER SPEED manually and SYNCRO SCAN isn't given as option.

If I push the DIAL SELECT button then the following options are displayed:
(1) DIAL LOCK -> (2) DIAL SHUTTER -> (3) DIAL FRAME RATE -> (1) DIAL LOCK ...
I am not given the option SYNCRO SCAN - it is missing at all.
According to the Panasonic booklet I should see
(1) DIAL LOCK -> (2) SYNCRO SCAN ->(3) DIAL SHUTTER -> (4) DIAL FRAME RATE -> (1) DIAL LOCK ...

Go to dial shutter. Push the button in and change the shutter until you see the syncro scan shutter speed displayed (it will have a decimal point). Then you can use the dial button to go to syncro scan and change the angle.

Barry, thanks for your patience - it might sounds stupid but that is exactly my problem. SYNCRO SCAN isn't displayed, it is gone. ... it also isn't my first camera and I have studied your book as well. But I simply don't get the option SYNCRO SCAN. At first I thought there is a physical defect but the frame rate can easily be changed. So the wheel works physically fine.
The system info says 1.15-00-0.00 Strictly speaking I think my camera is defect or the software is buggy.

So you went to Dial Shutter, then if you dial up to 1/2000, then dial up one more, you should hit Shutter 180.0d
Dial up again, and you will get 1/24, then back down to 180.0d
You don't get this in Dial Shutter mode?

Well, I assume that I can change the shutter speed in the scene file as well. Even though I prefer "FILM CAM" operation I switched on the "VIDEO CAM" mode and saved to scene files. One with a SYNCRO SCAN of 1/200.3 and another one with a SYNCRO SCAN of 1/30.0. Both recordings look exactly the same - I haven't used any auto iris or so. I therefore conclude that the SYNCRO SCAN Frequency in the scene file used doesn't have any impact at all.

...well, I also conducted a reset of the user files and scene files, changed the system frequency as well - no result

That's because you still aren't setting the shutter speed. You have to do that. Press the wheel in, and it'll toggle shutter speed selection on or off. Then use the wheel to change the shutter speed to the one after 1/2000.

THAT'S IT!
I didn't wanted to push the wheel in because I thought I am going to break it. Interesting mechanic. - Ok, and the last shutter speed setting is exactly the once in my scene file.
Thanks a lot for your help !!!!!
I am happy now (...for today)

I was just about to ask if you were actually pressing the wheel. Glad it worked out.

I'm having a problem with this. I can get to this point, I choose 180.0d,
then I rotate the dial, and it appears that I'm changing the shutter angle,
not the shutter speed. I need to get to the area where I can set custom
shutter speeds. Missing something I know, any help?

Set to Video Cam mode. Film Cam mode gives you shutter angles.

Actually you can have it set to shutter in Film mode. I think it's under option 1 in the menu. I don't remember 100% but it's either the first option or the second one below that. You'll see an option for shutter angle or shutter speed.

Not sure this is possible, but would love it if it is. Can you give more details?
