Shutter Angles for quick movement (do not want motion blur)

When I shot a lot of skateboarding with my Sony vx1000, I got in the habit of always shooting at 1/500th or 1/1000th at least, because there is a lot of fast motion going on that I didn't want to blur. I've always heard people say that "shooting at a high shutter speed makes it look stroby", but honestly, I could never see strobing in 60i footage.

Since I've gotten my HVX, and started shooting at 24p, I have started to notice the strobing, especially when making the shutter angle smaller. I played around with high shutterspeeds and small shutter angles to achieve that "saving private ryan look", but for most of my recent projects (which have had normal movement) I've stayed at 180 degree shutter for 24p. I tried to shoot skateboarding at the same settings, as well as 24pN/60fps at 350 degree shutter (equal to about 1/60th right?), and for both settings, the quick movement of skateboarding had too much motion blur.

Recently I've watched a few musicals and music videos with quick dancing, and I've noticed how fast they shot the shutter at, because there is no motion blur, and it doesn't look as smooth as a normal scene.

I'm trying to figure out what the best shutter angle to shoot at for quick motion like skateboarding or quick dancing is. I don't want motion blur, but I don't want extremely noticeable "saving private ryan" strobing. So I'm trying to find a happy medium. Does anyone have any shutter angle suggestions for both 24pN and 24pN/60fps?

i believe it's actually reversed... the smaller the shutter angle the faster the shutter speed, which means less motion blur...

try 90 degree shutter...

your old sony would have been shooting interlace. with a 500 to 1000 shutter would have been ok results that is 60 half frames . welcome to the 24p world . first why 24p for skateboarding? strobing at a fast shutter speed when camera is also moving. limit panning or camera moving at all. shoot at 30p .use shallow dof to get the film look you are looking for. when over cranking with higher shutter speed will give you a clean cool shot. remenber if you are using the degree shutter angle the smaller the faster, but 180 degree open shutter opening at 30 fps is open much longer than 180 degree when you over crack to 60 fps. but 1/500 is always 1/500 shutter. test ,test and re test.

Sorry I think I left out some important details about what I'm asking...

Before, I was shooting skate videos on 60i video. Recently I was shooting a narrative style commercial (my reason for 24p), that happen to have skateboarding in it.

I'm trying to figure out what shutter angle is used most of the time when shooting Musicals or music videos with dancing, where 24p would be the frame rate (either its shot on film, or its a choice to give a specific look on the HVX), to where it doesn't look "Saving Private Ryan" intensely strobing, but doesn't look extremely motion blury.

You can always shoot 60i on a DVX too, if you liked the 60i look before and wanted to get similar looks out of your DVX.
