Shut the hell up, or get the hell out...

I've been in several movie theaters - the layout's pretty much the same in all of them. Never have I felt the need to use my cell phone as a flashlight because, after all, I'm finding a seat in a row - not spelunking.

Props the the Alamo Drafthouse. Wish other theaters would adopt this mentality (likewise for the no advertisements too)

I might actually go to the theater with rules like that. If only they could do something about the quality of the movies...

That was great! Kudos to them for kicking her out. First she says just using it as a flashlight, then she says she texts at all of the other theaters with no problems.

Busted!

This obviously doesn't apply to every young person... but I'm glad there's a generation of 100% self-absorbed kids that have zero self-awareness. That should make the job market easier for the elderly like myself :)

A tip of my hat to The Alamo Drafthouse!... and a wag of my finger to that girl... who I think I'm met many times.

It's just a movie, you want control of the environment , wait till its on netflix.
It is useless to have a blanket ban if they don't take phones away when you enter.

On the contrary, kevinottawa, the Alamo is a perfectly good place to watch a movie because this is entirely enforceable. Frankly, your point about the blanket ban doesn't even make sense.

If you are going to ban the use of an item, why allow it in there to begin with?
"Oh what about if they get an emergency phone call", well that would still interrupt the movie and still be covered by a blanket ban.
If you allow the object in the theater, then you allow it to be used.

And how they handled it, makes me want to plant one of those random beeping gizmos that makes a noise every 6 minutes for months and are impossible to find

Sadly you describe the exact reason the ban there exists...

If they cannot control themselves for the length of a movie to not use their cell phone, their immaturity level is such that they shouldn't be there to see any movie, regardless of age.

It's too bad that simple manners and self control (for all of 90 minutes) has become a concept that todays "children" cannot grasp or handle.

The world is in trouble as the upcoming 4 minute attention span snowflakes get older.

Life happens 24/7, stuff happens while your in a 90 min dark holding cell.
You don't pay money to see a movie secluded and comfortable, you pay to see it first, otherwise why do they bother having those cramped neck killing front seats?

The whole point that you keep missing is:

At the Alamo, you pay your money to keep people who cannot control themselves for a whole 90 minutes OUT.

Apparently if you were to go to see a movie at the Alamo, you wouldn't see much of it. And I'll happily pay for that privilege.

No offence.

I'm not a texter, just pointing out a foolish crusade against technology and and controlling people

I support that movie house policy. I support that they kicked her out. ..period.

Its a crusade for discipline and proper behavior not against technology and control.

I think you aren't getting the idea of the Alamo theater management, they are aiming to create a comfortable, silent and dark place for people that want to get out of the chaotic world outside for 90 minutes or 120 or whatever the film lasts. People that want to see it secluded and comfortable..... For the rest of the moviegoers there are lots of other theaters out there......

BTW, who sits in the first rows????? Damn that must leave your back ruined forever.....

i've reached the point where i actually prefer to watch movies at home on blu-ray. i don't have to worry about others being a distraction, i can control the audio, i can get food whenever i want, and i can pause it to use the bathroom. the only type of movie i would probably want to see in a theatre would a crappy movie with lot of audience participation (the room, birdemic, etc.)
