Showreel

Hi guys, my first post in DVX. Heres my new showreel of recently completed films and creative projects. All material shot and edited by myself mainly on a canon 5d and a few clips from an ex1 all done for independent projects/personal projects hoping to develop myself and expand to bigger projects.

Chop off the first 20 seconds, move your titles out of your shot and into the black bar area. Use one piece of music (the first piece is fine) and keep the whole video to 2 minutes at maximum.

Is this a director's reel or a cinematography reel?

Either way, I agree with Gary. Lose the fluff at the beginning and give me the meat - you have two minutes of good content whether it's a director's reel or a cinematography reel.

Just note: if it's a director's reel, drop the music and show us a whole scene. Directing is about your control and voice in the scope of a film, not in any particular shot, so the reel should show that, whereas a cinematography reel can be cut fast with music because it's about the aesthetics, style, and difficulty of the shots individually and less about the whole of the scene itself. A directing reel should show us how you craft a scene or moment with your camera, actors, and production design. A cinematography reel should showcase a DP's style and capability. Two very different kinds of reels, and if you do both, make a reel for each.
