Showreel for 2006

I think it looked great. I think I remember the day you got your camera... your in...?... South Africa? or something?

Color treatment looked fantastic, and it was well put together.

The only thing I saw that (I think) didn't really fit well was the outside/flower/grass shots. I'd maybe cut those...

hey brown, (south africa yes) actually someone mentioned the flowers looked out of place too.

thanks man.

Hey... I was just watching this again, and had a couple questions.

I'm looking for a "grunge" look, and I'm really liking the look you have at 00:53 seconds, and 1:02. Could you run through your workflow to achieve the look?

It looks like a plugin for the scratches, but which one? and how did you achieve the color grading for those scenes? also, what NLE are you editing on?

peace

hey brown. gotcha i did that lil clip for a show on MTV called MTV alert. I still have the working file at home. at work now. ill post a method later man!

brown,
firstly footage is saturated. the old film lines were off MB i made some white and some black. There is some vignetting too. The footage was shot 2 cameras one clean and the other over exposed. The clean camera was kept reasonably still and the over exposed camera was made to be shakey (lotsa zooming in fast and moving around frantically) The cc on both was just boosting the contrast to bring out the overexposed whites, i actually tweaked the hue aswell. i never do that but it worked....made a reds pink and the yellows, neon, some purples too (but this was a very soft tweak not overdone) I added grain to dirty the image up. actually a lot of grain. And finally the overall gamma is boosted too a bit.
Then in PS i made 4 different images of random white scribbles, and also 3 images of red and yellow spots using tje circular gradient tool and overlapping them. also added on top of those some white paint swobs for no reasons but to be random.
In AE i placed all these jpg "randomly" on a layer above the footage whenever the cameras movement suited it. The blending options changed dependingly, but mainly soft light and hard light. this took ages. but its copy paste keyframes really. the footage was 30mins so took aaaaaaaaaaages.

dont think i left anything out.... did that helped?
would u like a still frame?

That was a really cool looking reel. All the shots had a different type of feel to them. I also enjoyed the little bits of parkour. Great job.

Awesome. Yes, it helped, and no need for a still (but thanks for the offer).

Showreel looked beautiful. One of the best I have seen on this board. Cuting, timing and cc was right on the money. The music wasn't my thing but again that depends from person to person. With a real like that you should have no problem get work. I also checked out your website overall you do pro work. Keep it UP

wow, manymoosh Thanks so much for the kind words. You know i have no idea how my work ways up, so hearing that helps alot. Been using a camera for a year almost and I didnt study film so i got a feeling it will be tuff to convince people of my work without a good showreel.

thanks again mate

Grass shots

Grass shots

I liked the grass/flower shots... nice contrast to the grunge stuff.
It left me wanting more... which makes is really good!

Bezakor,
Really good work here. Keep it up!
On a minor note though -- every 4th frame is being duplicated. Watch it frame by frame and you'll see unless that's what was intended for some reason.
Jgastelb

jgastelb i am seeing that in some scene? did u see that the whole way thru?
why would that be....slomo is all i think and i see it in the slowmo only. definitely not desired.
