Show off your Sony E-Mount Rig

We have all gone with E-mount because of its amazing performance both in the consumer grade range (Nex 5n, VG20 etc) and in the professional range (FS100/700).

Lets see your system and tell us why you went Sony E-Mount instead of the rest! I'll start:-






This is my Rehoused Sony Nex5N with sony 5" external monitor running off HDMI. The rehousing gives lens support and fan cooling for prolonged use. It's currently set up for horizontal or vertical tripod mounting (I shoot portrait orientation using an anamorphic lens to get square format). the pictures show it set up in normal orientation (16:9 / 2.35:1). If I spin it 90 degrees and use the additional side mounted tripod mount I can shoot in 9:16 mode, and using a 1.5x anamorphic lens I get 18:16 format after post processing. I originally went for Nex due to lens options and the 50p full hd movie mode. At the time no other camera had this in the low price range. I use vintage Zeiss and Isco lenses

Wow, I really like the 5n housing. Looks tidy.
I don't really have a pic of my current set up, got an older one.



Guess key differences now is I have a proper baseplate and not an old DSLR one, quick release on the bottom of the shoulder rig so it drops straight on the tripod.
I have a TILTA strong arm for the SmallHD DP1x now, sometimes I mix it up between the DP4 and the Cineroid EVF.

*As a side note I don't usually have a 9" monitor on the back of a handheld rig, it was a cobbled up rig so Director could stand behind and see the shot. I think that was a tripod adaptor flipped upside down with a 1/4" hotshoe adapter on the bottom.... it was a weird setup.

here is my FS100, It is set up with a Berkey System kit, Chroziel Mattebox, All lenses including the Zeiss 28-70 have Cordvision rings and caps. The SmallHD EVF is supported by a Cordvision bracket, all including the Atomos Ninja 2 can be powered off the Swit Battery which hangs down off a Berkey plate and acts as a back shoulder support together with the shoulder pad. Not shown is the Tilta follow focus. I will dig up a shot of my NEX7 tomorrow.
This rig works well off the shoulder and on sticks.

Hey Brian,
Nice setup, been eyeing of the Berkey top handle myself. Just wondering about the distance between the shoulder pad and the handle bars, huge gap. Is that comfortable to hold like that? Looks straining.

Is that the Sachtler DV4? I have one and it looks the same.

Thanks, I really like the Berkey system, the quality and build and finish is superb. I will shoot a shot of the setup for hand held, the shoulder pad does a 180 and slides under the tripod plate so the distance is minimal and with the Berkey plate and swit v lock battery hanging down it serves as a back rest. It has about the same dimensions as the Shane Hurlbut Letus setup. I use the stock Sony handle with a Berkey piece and a modified Manfroto Lanc cable. Yes its a DV4 and older one that works perfect and is nice and light. I have one other Sachtler Video 18 with pneumatic dolly pedestal and a set of regular aluminum legs.

Like Brian my A Rig is powered off a Swit Vlok, normaly it supplies power to the Hyperdeck, Cineroid & Camera - runs all day and has 2 of the 4 bars left...
- on top i have Caleb's handle, i love the wood, but mainly i love the solid feel...
- the cineroid is attached on a rod a 90 degree adpt and one of Caleb's adjustable/lockable ends.. works perfectly... i turn the knuckle a tiny bit adjust the EVF, and tighten.. it stays excatly where i leave it untill i adjust it again.... things like this make a big diffrence on a long day....
- underneath i have Olaf's baseplate with built in shoulder pad, and a slot for lens support, a riser/bracket for holding rods in the proper position in teh front, and his rear plate holds the BMD and Swit.. again i am very happy with his work, it goes straight onto my shoulder without any changes and feels like it's built to last a lifetime;


when this piccie was taken i had a failure on the Swit-to-Sony adpt, it was a prototype back then, so for a few days the camera was using a sony on-board and the cineroid was also using the canon backup batt's... i now have the production version back on the camera - and it's been rock solid ever since.

Pics of my baby rig, not quite as elaborate as others but seems to work nice It's a VG900 with XLR adapter and lcd display attached on top, Sigma 70-200 lens in front all on a Zacuto universal plate, along with an aluminum lens support in front that I got off ebay.

I like the mounting of the EVF in your photo - is that just one finger tighty I'm seeing there? I never thought of that - does just the one give you enough resistance?

"Just" one is perfect!
One little finger tweak, twist lose - move EVF - twist tight, and it's set solid until i want to change it again.. we did rough up the rod used so there was something for it to grip onto

Brilliant little thing you have made, as i noted above;

things like this make a big diffrence on a long day....

First class kit... feels like it belongs on an Alexa ;-)
